Moderator | Public access tv As soon as I saw this I knew you guys would enjoy it, so I made a little video for ya's.
Rich had a business meeting in Connecticut this weekend and I tagged along for the ride, as it turns out they have some pretty kick ass public access shows out there in the Boonies. I have no freaking idea what this is but we watched it for at least an hour on Saturday night. Excuse my shitty camera work, but I couldn't stop giggling and it wasn't to easy to hold the camera steady, you might also hear me telling Rich to stop acting like a goon. I'm uaware of any shows like this in my area but I hope to God they exist, and I'll find them soon. Do you guys have any wacky public access shows that you enjoy? Post links if you can fnd them. PS This show was followed by a half hour of an elderly man walking around his property pointing out all of his 9000 cats by name and telling a little anecdote about each feline. It was fucking fantastic. The only bad part of this experience was the fact that I was completely unaltered while watching it. In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular. |

Awesome. He sounds so hammered.
The only local public access show we had here in Ottawa was the Tom Green Show and it was only really funny in the really early days. Now we only have a very boring daytime talkshow. We definitely need more drunk old dudes like that guy.

We've got this skanky guy here in Tampa who calls himself "Lobster boy", and his shows are so awful that the only good part of the show is when people call in and basically tell him off.
I haven't watched public access in years, so I 'm not sure if he's even taking the abuse on T.V. anymore. Plus Osama Bin Rhonda Storms wants to deny all funding for that kind of stuff.

in minneapolis there's a couple of public access shows that i like:
the nancy boys: it's a show hosted by a few local female impersonators. they do stuff like interviews, recipes, even science experiments and how to repair cars. i used to tune in to this show a lot when i still had cable. drinking with ian: al-kee-haul, interviews, music, and other craziness galore. it's filmed over at the 7th st. entry, and i've yet to have attended a taping of the show. that'll get rectified soon enough, though. there's this show...dunno if it has a name or not, but it's like a call-in variety show in which different things go on every week. i remember watching it one week and they had a game of scrabble going (people would call in and play along), then another week they had some guy dressed up as osama bin laden (no kidding!) hiding among different props in the studio; people would call in and guess where he was. it was like live hide-and-seek. satban video: it was a video show with tons of old-school videos, they occasionally had interviews on there with some prince-related folks. unfortunately the show ain't on anymore, but luckily i taped a bunch of episodes. goodtimes. MTN (channels 16 and 17) is teh awesome! edit [Edited 11/24/06 8:02am]

They're even cheaper, and they reach a global audience. Plus, they can be viewed on demand. I love the Amy Lammar show on videos.google

Ex-Moderator | I have had 2 friends in the past that had their own shows and asked me to be on them, but I refused.
One was a music show, fairly serious, and I was given the opportunity to interview Ween. At the last minute I didn't do it cause I would have felt stupid and didn't know what to ask. The other was an old friend who tracked me down in the phone book and we chatted for a few hours and he was telling me about the show he was doing and was all 'you should TOTALLY be a guest on my show!'. He was apparently doing a show about UFOs and alien phenomenon and wanted me to come on and talk about one of my experiences. I told him I hadn't HAD any experiences. He said that was OK, I could just make something up. !! Needless to say, I didn't do it. |

Here in T.O., there's a show on CITY-TV/MuchMusic called Speaker's Corner, where anyone can drop a dollar coin in the slot and talk into the camera for a few minutes (not that it'll necessarily air). My favourite is the genteel octogenarian who goes on every week to defend his right to pay a dominatrix to spank him. He's so cute.
Incidentally, Prince told Much that he watches the show and was often tempted to stop in himself and do a rant. :believeitwheniseeit:

Much is located in the heart of a district with a zillion nightclubs, so it tends to attract a slightly inebriated clubgoer here and there (and by "here and there", I mean "always" ). Here's a beer commercial parody:

Unfortunately, I'm afraid it would have to air on Much Retro for that.
