Why is there only one puppy? Did they abort all of the other lil cute puppies to get a better camera angle?

I can answer this...my lab has had three HUGE litters. The first one was 12, then 11, then 9. Each puppy fetus grows in its own "sack." The puppies are born seperately, then the mother eats the sack and starts licking them to make them breathe.

It's really a miracle to witness. My dog would only let me around her when she was in labor. She would actually let me help her (not with the eating, of course), but she was having them so fast, that the puppies were piling up behind her, and not finding her milk. So she would let me pick them up and move them to her immediately after they were born. Most dogs don't want people around them while they're delivering, much less, handling the newborn pups.
