Giving birth.

Org mothers - what was it like?

There's a lady I work with named Nancy who says, "I only had one kid because there's only ONE TIME some motherfucker is allowed to put ME in that kind of pain."

But my friend Kristina insists it's not that bad, and a cousin of mine who's gone through FIVE births, several of which without drugs, insists it's "not that bad."

I need to know. Out of curiosity.
This one's for you.

lol Hell no, but I've been pondering it considering all of the potential routes life can take. Personally, I don't feel like I'm missing anything by not reproducing. I have some superficial reasons for not wanting any babies (eg, stretch marks, baby weight, fear of ugly baby I'd be embarrassed to take in public) and then there's just straight fear of pain. But I suppose it ain't so bad for every body. biggrin

Alex insists I'll want one eventually. He says, "I'll sneak one in."

Ugh. Pig. biggrin

But sometimes I get a little hormonal and wonder what our offspring would look like. I don't really want to reproduce. I think what I end up craving mostly is some sort of really permanent bond besides a legal document. By the same token, I hate the idea cos then all of his attention wouldn't be on me. rolleyes

Unless you want natural childbirth with a nurse midwife there are options. (midwives give meds also if needed. My stepdaughter is a midwife)

Epidural catheters are placed in the back which numb the lower pelvis and alleviate pain. Narcotic can be given safely for pain control.

In Europe, the royalty have elective c-sections and this is an option with some OB docs here.
There's a new theory on episiotomies.."they have no value and don't need to be done". Depends on your physician. Local meds are injected to numb the area, such as lidocaine, before the episiotomy.
This is the 21st century and women don't need to suffer if they don't want to.

Don't worry. You won't notice. You'll be too busy with the family addition to even care. One thing about children, you stop putting yourself first.

It's fine if ya get an epidural..... I hardly felt a thing and it went real fast.

Oh, well except for the fact that my whole twat got split open. From hole to hole. With both kids. That kinda sucked. biggrin

How bad is sex afterwards? After a child has tunneled through your love hole, does sex feel differently? Discuss. biggrin

I was in labor for 24 hours, WORST PAIN EVER!!

Got an epidural, then an emergency C-section, which is serious surgery.

My incision got infected a week later, took antibiotics. Had a rash from my cooch to my knees for a week, found out it was a yeast infection from the antibiotics.

Even now, my doctor thinks I have either a hernia or incisional endometriosis. I haven't been able to conceive for the last three years, so it might be the latter.

I know everyone will think this is mean, but I had a terrible experience with childbirth.

Well, like immediatly after, hell yeah. I mean obviously, its hard to walk sit lift, oh gawd, it's worse than labor pains. And everyone has this debate about wether its better to be cut or let you tear. Well, I had both, and they were both EQUALLY painful.

Anyways, sex. OMG! Your supposed to wait 6 weeks to have sex again. Well, I let my husband talk me into trying to have sex like 4 weeks, in, and HOLY SHIT. It was NOTHING like the pain of when you get your cherry popped. It felt like I was getting cut with a sword or something. I remember it like it was yesterday. I was laying on the floor between the couch and the coffeetable, and I was like, TAKE IT OUT!!! And he was like, no no, I'll go slow. UGH! It was awful.

Well I don't know if I had like trauma to the twat or something, cuz even after the 6 wks was up sex hurt so bad. No matter how wet I was, it wasn't like a lube issue or anythign, I think I wasn't healed or something. And seriously, for a YEAR after I had my son, it would hurt a little when he first put it in. But it went away after a year. Sometimes I wonder if the doctor stitched me up tighter than I was before. Cuz like my hole is REALLY small, I don't know if thats why or what.

Tehn with my daughter, I MADE him wait the 6 weeks. And it didn't hurt quite as bad, and it only hurt the first couple times. Nothing like the trauma with my son.

I like sex way too much to jeopardize it! Jesus.

Ugh, Alex has decided there's no point to living without reproducing. It was perfect when we met - he was a-okay, he said, with being childless. Two nights ago, while laying in bed, he kept mentioning how cute my friend Kristina's baby was, and I said, "good thing you like her, cos visiting Kristina's baby is the best your ass is gettin'!" Then he chuckled. I said, "WTF." He said. "I'll sneak one in eventually."

You can scedule a C-section these days. Don't let me scare ya. Everyone is different. I feel lucky actually. I felt no pain during my labors, it was just after that sucked. Plus I had both my kids really fast. 3-6 pushes and they were out. I'm sure that had a lot to do woth the tearing. Your vag is supposed to have time to stretch and elasticize during labor, and I was induced, so mine went faster than they should have.

Looking back it's easy to say, "Ah! It's no big deal, it wasn't that bad" because you heal and move on with life.

However, when you are going thru it, it is the WORST. I have a high tolerance to pain and I was in agony. I actually didn't even really notice most of my labour pains until I hit transition (from being induced) and then holy crap, it's was incredible - 90 second contractions only a minute apart.

There were 13 other women in the ward giving bith so I had to wait for my epidural. They told me that it was going to be 20 minutes, but it ended up being over 3 hours. To make matters worse, it took 3 attempts to actually successfully give me the epidural and the absolute worst part about getting one is you have to sit incredibly still while they do it, meanwhile going thru the worst labour pains imaginable.

Once I got my epidural, I was in heaven and it was easy breezy. I only needed one little stitch, so that wasn't so bad, and everything went back to normal after a few months.

With all that said, I'd do it all again...not that I am actually wanting more kids.

I've heard good things from mothers who birthed naturally, and they said the hormones take over so it is overall not painful, just a lot of work (ie. "pushing").

I heard (since I was pleasently drugged at the time) that it's not so much the delivery that's terrible, it's the last stage of labour pains, just before delivery, that is the most painful.
