last fall i had mice in my other house

opened the cupboard and saw the little fucker neutral
i just closed the cupboard door and walked away squirming

bought a bunch of traps
caught two of them

the freaky part is when you hear the trap go off in the middle of the night
but i would never go check until the morning.

then i threw out everything that couldn't be bleached and scalded from the cupboard lol

worship to muse for dealing with a rat!!

That is the part that has me freaked out... and for all I know this one is a mouse and not a rat.... I caught his friend in garage and am assuming that is what got in here..... I love to leave the doors open to let the breeze flow through the place.... I fear I let trouble in.....

and I by no means am screaming poor either... If my acting like a big girl fails in the next 48 hours I will call in the troops.

Those cheap mouse traps work well. You have to put a dab of peanut butter on them to attract the rodent.

We had something in our attic that we could hear scratching in the walls at night sometimes. The trap ended up catching a shrew. That was a surprise!

awww. i saw a little mouse in my place the other day (the tiny ones with those big ears) and for the life of me i can't bring myself to put out a trap or poison.

recommend you live trap the rat, if possible. i know i'm advocating a bleeding heart approach but it's only a creature trying to survive.

Have you tried those electronic sound repellent devices? We had a problem in our garages where these little mice were climbing into peoples cars, under the car hood, and making it their home - chewing up the foam under the hood as well. Each of us put a couple of those devices in our garages and it stopped.

You can also buy those metal cages to trap them, then just set them free somewhere farther away from your house.

Glue traps are mean. My parents put them in their garage and this really cute frog got stuck on it. My mom and I were messing around for like a half hour trying to get it off of it with dish detergent, LOL.

i know this is weird but i started seeing the irony of my stance upon thinking it over. i have a flock of birds for companions, and feed them all kinds of snacks just for fun. why are birds better than mice?

that little mouse was so cute. stuck his head out from under the radiator and looked at me. i kind of waved at him like 'shoo' and he hid. then, two seconds later popped his head out again like "you really mean it?"

i want to put food out for him redface or her.

I think about this too...and it's all based on perceptions formed by society...we are all (except maybe IB biggrin ) influenced by them...in the case of rats and mice...throughout history they've been known for and blamed for carrying disease (black plague is the biggie) and being distructive, so we've learned to be repulsed by them. When I thought about Karen having some big, ole sewer rat on her property I recoiled (but still support humane traps)...but, when I saw it was that little, cute, fuzzy guy I immediately warmed up to him.

All due respect to the right to lifers rat posee however, If you are a rat and you are in my house both doing damage and moving around my children in the night, you are going to die. This is not up for debate. I respect your beliefs and am afraid you will have to step back and accept mine.

Good one! I will check into that because the last time they got in my garage they did a number on the wiring under the hood of my car and my brothers corvette. I still have small electrical issues but he had to have his rewired...

My son is horridly allergic to them or I would certainly have one ( Well, I also travel to much.) to any end. I am about to fire the Owl who resides in my front yard for failure to perform. (Perhaps you could draw that up for me. ) as is the little rat bastard managed to get all the peanut butter off the traps and not trigger them. However must have fallen from a high surface as I heard a terrible racket at 4:30 this morning. Now I am loosing sleep over it... eyepop He hasn't managed to invoke my sympathies AT ALL!

As a compromise as I am all into prevention I will look into Toms suggestion..

jerseykrs

you're lucky to have a friend that grew up in Newark, New Jersey. nod

listen, do exactly as I say.....

set a trap along the wall with peanut butter smeared on the trip, but DON'T set the trap. check to see if he came at night and feasted. When he does, you got his ass.

the next night, put peanut butter in the corner of a ziploc bag, then cut that corner off and tie the little death treat int a little pouch, then tie this to the trip with a piece of wire, strip a garbage bag tie, that works well. tie it nice and tight to the trip. then poke about three or four small holes in the sack and squeeze JUST a little peanut butter through the holes.

set that fucker and enjoy playing grim reaper for a day.

thumbs up!

Buy those round hotels..

They twist open, and when the mice enter it closes, and traps them inside.

I used the old kind, and the last one I caught was bloody.. I did not like that.

yeah, that isn't pleasant neutral

jersey i was confused at first but i think i get it... the purpose of the little bag of peanut butter is to get them to pull it off and thereby set off the trap easier? the wire would have to be really short so the little beggar would still get snapped.

i would set up that bucket of water trap i showed you in the garage... oh and start keeping your doors shut!! tease
