I'm a feminist! And I'm damn proud of it!
I stand for and support women's equality not only in this country but around the world. American women have it made compared to many women on this planet. The next time any woman feels an aversion to the word "feminist" for it's lesbianic or dykish connotation, just remember those women put themselves on the frontline so that you can live in a society that affords you the right to live the life that you want to live outside of the expectations and dictations of men. Even though I lack the most visible aspects of being a woman, I feel very strongly in my soul a connection to the female force and I am so proud to defend that and represent it when I can . feminism is a tool of the devil.
sike Welcome to queendom. I wish more younger women would embrace feminism for all can bring to women's issues. I know that for black women, anytime we embrace our sisterhood, we are told that we don't support our black men and are being used by white women to further THEIR cause. power to the people

They interviewed blacks and latinas who felt it was a more or less white movement and that really saddened me because I cannot think of women who need the freedom that feminism possesses more than minorities I guess I don't have the answer to how to fix that other than women of all races, all classes and all backgrounds to stand together in the fight for true equality. Who would rather be a full time stay at home mom and not work. Who want the traditional home life. Stuff like that. It's 2006. Almost 2007.

I'm glad to see the mighty Queen Rhonda representin I think that's slowly changing, though. In the women's studies classes I took in college (early 90's) we talked about how many minority women felt left out of the feminist movement. We made a point to seek out as many differernt female prespectives as possible. Nearly every book I read now (and I still consider it a topic I 'study') at the least acknowledges when it doesn't bring different racial backgrounds into the topic of discussion at hand and most of the time attempts to show all sides. |

Unfortunately, many who press women to opt for this want them to do it out of expectations and completely ignore that in today's society families often need two incomes to survive. My mother did not get to stay home with us when we were kids because she was a single mother but when she married my step-father and had 2 more kids she was able to stay home with them and I have always been happy that they had that 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

The point is that women aren't mandated to the kitchen and mandated to birth offspring and mandated to stay in the home. They have the option to be the woman they want to be and hopefully they are staying home for the right reasons and not out of some outdated and patriarchal expectation that a woman's place is barefoot and pregnant..... .
