not really, because once the music is on the ipod, the music is "locked" there.
HOWEVER, if you own a mac, there is a program called PodWorks (its only 10$ online) that can unlock your ipod so you can take from it and put on2 your computer.
it works really well smile

hope that helped

ps: not sure if you can use it amongst different computers, it'd be safest to have it registered to one computer only nod

i love my zen micro cloud9 without it (and the ability to take songs off of it on any computer the software's installed on) i would've lost a huge chunk of my music when my laptop died this summer.

no, you can delete songs, move them around, or whatever
you just can't upload music on2 your computer from your ipod, unless you have a program that does so.

The iPods ain't the only ones to do this. The Sony hard-drive Walkmans have the same principle.

Tough if you ever have to reformat your pc and lose all the songs on the hard drive.

it's the only thing you can do.

It's cool just that it makes it hard 2 share with others who may have a song or 2 that u would like 2 have.

Damn, really? I have to get a new Nano this weekend and I hate I can't move the music off my iPod to the new one.

Oh and I will never buy another iPod again. It didn't last a whole year.

Yes, but not without a free download of 3rd party software. Check out the following link and find something that works for you:

I've owned 3 since their introduction and never had a problem with any of them.

The one I have died within two weeks so I took it back to the store to get a new one and the replacement's screen died about two weeks ago.

I love my iPod. Although I am concidering returning it and waiting for when they come out with one with a larger screen. And that's only because I think 375.00 is alot to spend on something that may be bettered in the next few months. Concidering Microsofts new mp3 player already has a larger screen.

Well, there have been many rumors about a true "Video iPod" with touch screen display under development but I'm guessing we won't see it before Christmas now...

And while the Zune display measures as being larger it actually doesn't show any more pixels. I'm not sure if that's good or bad.

This question was the biggest one I had 6 months ago when buying my iPod, and I almost returned it as a result. I downloaded sharepod, though, after a recommendation here on the org, and I've been happy with it ever since.

You can download a program called Ephpod that gets the music off your iPod and onto your harddrive.

I forgot to mention though, be warned. The Ephpod will automatically erase all your cover art on your songs if you transfer the files from your iPod to your computer.

You'll have to play all the songs on your iPod in iTunes to have the pics automatically return on your iPod screen.

I think all versions of iTunes after 7 allow you to transfer the songs from the iPod to your computer. It was announced at one of their conferences a few weeks back.

In iTunes go to "File", then "Transfer purchases from iPod" right? confuse

I'm not sure what happens after that though. lol

Nope. Only works with purchased songs, since they're still trying to stop illegal sharing of music.
