lol I hear ya. Be thankful that you dont live in the south/mid-atlantic. THis is the bar-b-que capital of the frickin world. Everything is pork pork pork and beef. On the plus side, its forced me to become a much better cook. We have a few Indian restaurants, some gret Thai places, and Chilli's has one hell of a veggie burger. Aside from those places, there really isnt much variety for those of us who choose not to eat the carne.

it's not SO bad here in chicago, especially in my neighborhood. i have a vegan diner down the street, some really excellent middle eastern and indian restaurants within walking distance, and lots of good asian and mexican places with veggie options. but you can only get these kinds of places in certain parts of the city, whereas i think other parts of town would consider a thai or indian restaurant to be 'snooty' or pretentious. we had a pot luck at work a couple of years ago, and i brought in hummus and pita. NOBODY knew what it was. NOBODY. wtf?!? THAT'S the kind of thing that still takes some getting used to, living in the midwest again. who doesn't know what hummus is?!?

That reminds me of that episode of The Simpsons when Marge and the other wives have a food cart selling Middle Eastern food and the items were all renamed so they would sell. Pitas > pocket bread; tahini > flavor sauce; falafel > crunch patties. Maybe you should have done that for your co-workers.

i should do that everytime someone asks what i'm eating - just re-name it to make it sound like the hulk invented it.

Being happy doesn't mean that everything is perfect, it means you've decided to look beyond the imperfections... unknown

I'm pretty busy with a challenging white tail deer hunt right now, as soon as the weekend is over, I'll be happy to.
