I think therapy can be a good thing for short term treatment. But many times therapists try to make people dependent on them and on the meds. It's better to face your demons and work your own wat through problems if you can.
An exception to that is DBT (Dialectical behavior therapy) which is a short term treatment that gives you insight into your behavior and new behaviors to overcome your problems. I went through it both for myself and later with a friend and it's wonderful... but very few therapists are qualified to teach it.

When the therapee is ready, the therapist will come.

Therapy turned my life around dramatically. But it was because I sincerely needed it and worked hard at it, like it was a matter of life and death. I found a woman who was much more than a therapist -- but an extremely wise old woman, spiritual teacher, healer. I basically learned how to live and restructure myself emotionally and practically.

I did outgrow her, however, and now I can barely stand to have a conversation with her. lol

I was in therapy for about 10 months. I talked...I didn't get anything out of it, and finally the dr told me "Well...you have an amazing way to cope with your situations unlike I have ever seen, because for someone to have been through what you have been through many would be crazy." My answer..."Is this your way of telling me you don't know what to do with me?"

Two weeks after that I told her I wasn't ever coming back she said I see no problem "Case closed". So I felt more like a case than a person with personal issues. They kept trying to put me on medication, when I really didn't need it.

It can be a good thing if you really have a problem, but with me I get over my issues suck it up and move on, thats how I was raised. So I think therapy is a waste of money and time.

And you do realize that by making such a glib statement, you're potentially dissuading people from seeking out something they might desperately need? What about that young man who posted here recently that he was feeling suicidal? What do you suggest for him? Vitamins and exercise? :disgust:

Don't be such a douchebag.
