i've tried therapy a few times in my life and it's never been useful to me. in fact, i always wind up with therapists who seem like they have more issues than i do, which...who knows...may be a form of therapy in itself!

Therapists are so nosy.

My last therapist said she wouldn't refuse to see me if I wanted to keep seeing her, but she didn't think I needed it. That was several months ago. Now I'm thinking I need to find a new one. |

my left foot hurts. can therapy help that?

Therapy's good for people like my dad who have never analyzed their feelings, but it takes a long time & lots of money to get anywhere.
But I think a lot of people who enter therapy already analyze themselves too much and it becomes a bit of a waste. And you only get from therapy what you put into it, so don't lie to them! My Legacy

It can help you through a tough time in your life like divorce when all of your friends and family are giving you their thoughts and opinions. sometimes it takes someone from the outside to talk to that has an unbiased view to help you realize that you already have the answers within you.

the idea of talking to a total stranger about my personal issues is a little creepy/frightening, to be honest.

We do that all of the time here on the org... True, but it's not face to face. That's the part I dislike.

MARY: Don't psychoanalyze me! I pay a doctor for that. ISAAC: Hey, you call that guy that you talk to a doctor?! I mean, you don't get suspicious when your analyst calls you at home at three in the morning and weeps into the telephone? MARY: Alright, so he's a little unorthodox.

And you do realize that by making such a glib statement, you're potentially dissuading people from seeking out something they might desperately need? What about that young man who posted here recently that he was feeling suicidal? What do you suggest for him? Vitamins and exercise? :disgust: Don't be such a douchebag.

I've always been good at therapying myself. Sometimes I think it might be nice to have someone else to hear it, and at that point, I generally tell Alex.
Alex sees a therapist, though. He thinks it's mostly BS as well, or so he says. When he comes back, he seems to be in a much better mood in general, though. Take that for what you will. This one's for you.

I think of the Woody Allen "lifetime commitment for neurotics" when I think of therapy. It's a stereotype.
If it's needed to improve one's life, I'm all for it. Must find someone good and get references or a recommendation from your physician. Not everyone can afford therapy.

If an offhand remark by a total stranger on a Prince website would dissuade someone from getting treatment.....they probably weren't interested, anyway.

It has saved my life in the past. Not cos I was suicidal. Saved me from a life of closed mindedness, of mental illness (what's usually deemed sanity), of emotional shutdown and de-sensitization, of general un-awareness.... to name a few. That's right, you are Divinity
