O.J. Simpson's book, TV special canceled
News Corp. says it has canceled publication of the O.J. Simpson book and television special "If I Did It."

Associated Press

Last update: November 20, 2006 – 2:52 PM

NEW YORK— After a firestorm of criticism, News. Corp. said Monday that it has canceled the O.J. Simpson book and television special "If I Did It."

"I and senior management agree with the American public that this was an ill-considered project," said Rupert Murdoch, News Corp. chairman. "We are sorry for any pain that his has caused the families of Ron Goldman and Nicole Brown Simpson."

A dozen Fox affiliates had already said they would not air the two-part sweeps month special, planned for next week before publication of the book. It was being published by ReganBooks, a HarperCollins imprint owned, like the Fox network, by News Corp.

In the projects, Simpson speaks in hypothetical terms about how he would have committed the 1994 slayings of his ex-wife Nicole and her friend Goldman.

The industry trade publication Broadcasting & Cable editorialized against the show Monday, saying "Fox should cancel this evil sweeps stunt."

One of the nation's largest superstore chains, Borders Group Inc., said last week it would donate any profits on the book to charity.

great. so now leaked copies are going to surface on eBay and people are going to pay out the ass for copies and i'm sure ol' OJ has a few boxes he can unload at a VERY special price. this only raises the value of the book and makes people more curious. disbelief

better the book should have been released and OJ and the publisher get a good sound thrashing from the public for it.

There are Nazi's living in this country, KKK, ect earning a LIVING. This man was found INNOCENT of murder charges. I could care less if u don't "like" him. I don't "like" him either but he should be able 2 earn a living.

Holy Hell!!! Someone woke up...about time..

..so what NewsCorp is saying is that if there wasn't SUCH a groundswell of criticism, they would have gone forward with the project, regardless of how retarded this idea was from jumpstreet.....just shows how skewed some priorities are.....

I don't think he doesn't deserve 2 earn a living and move on with his life. The problem is he's mocking (and profiting from) the very brutal murder he was tried 4. The fact that he was acquitted doesn't make the whole thing any less perverse.

If he wants to earn a living driving a bus, or doing something to BETTER society, by all means do so....but for him to consistently try to tie his earning potential to the case is wrong....period!! I agree completely that it is perverse....totally tasteless...that he would sit down and actually believe that this was anything more than a self serving attempt to get a little blood money....

yeah, i agree. and my point isn't that i'd like to see this book out on bookstore shelves, but rather that i think this decision is going to make his book a sought-after collector's item, which will give his psycho BS a whole new layer of notoriety. i guess it sucks either way. shrug

I, honestly, from the bottom of my heart, wish there wasnt such a thing as this Double Jeopardy Statute!!

I would have loved 2 see TRUE justice done on this man a second time around!!

I remember, about 4 years after he was acquitted, he decided 2 start up a public information website on crime and how 2 detect a possible killer and he was scheduled 2 appear on all the chat and talk shows 2 promote it and he was interviewed by Katie Couric on the NBC Today Show. Well, that was the only show he was able 2 do, cos every other show he was scheduled 2 appear on backed out due 2 public outcry!!

So, I guess, even though hes not languishing in prison for his crimes, he is serving a life sentence in a way living in total infamy and public disgust and contempt!!! He will never again live a normal life, like the one he used 2 have - THANK GOD!!!!! biggrin biggrin biggrin

I don't accept this. They should've went with it, damn the public reaction. They were going to go through with, thinking it was a money maker. Now that it might get some backlash that won't last, they won't? So they will lose money and try to play the good guys....screw that. They are bad guys and now they are going to rake Reagan over the coals. Typical Fox. If it doesn't work out, blame the "talent".

Sort of related, I always thought in my heart of hearts that before OJ died he would confess...This isn't the full confession, but it will come.

I disagree. He loves the spotlight and this book/interview, his recent show "Juiced" (was that on pay per view or something) and the sex tape some thougth was of OJ and two women all speak to this....He'll admit it but he isn't confident enough to do that, now. I agree with you that he is a media/attention whore....but he isn't admitting it because he knows that if he did, with as many people want to kill his ass now, he definitely wouldn't have to wait long to die....and it sure as hell wouldn't be from natural causes.....even if he was on death's doorstep, someone would find a way to keep him alive long enough to kill him in a way that would cause the UTMOST suffering.....

I say the NRA or one of those uh, specialist groups with the Serta Tuxedos should pick him off. Take aim and fire.

Wait....I'm confused here...

....I just linked over to Amazon and read the reviews on the "book" (which is now on sale as an audio book)....one of the reviewers said that it was written while he was awaiting trial...so it was way before the verdict ever came out....if that is the case, then how can anyone see it as an attempt to clear himself after the verdict if the trial hadn't even taken place...? Of course, he proclaimed his innocence during and after the trial, so it stands to reason that he would do it while he sat in prison waiting for his day in court, right? confuse

Or am I reading too much into "AWAITING TRIAL"? hmmm

The first book, probably. Amazon usually doesn't let reviewers make comments unless something is out. The book is hard to find even searching under If I did it and OJ Simpson.
