SOUNDS FAMILIAR, don't it??? Henderson puts 'Papa' first at Fox Searchlight
Hollywood Reporter, July 02, 2002 Felicia Henderson, creator and executive producer of the Showtime series "Soul Food," has set up the feature film project "Papa Was" at Fox Searchlight Pictures. She will write, direct and produce the drama, with "Soul Food's" Boris Kodjoe set to star and produce along with "Shaft" producer Paul Hall through his Hallway Films. The deal is part of a three-picture deal Searchlight has made with Henderson, who is penning an outline for "Papa" with an eye to start production when her series goes on hiatus in October. "Papa" is the story of how a lifelong friendship between two men in their 20s deteriorates when one of them, who works as a high-priced gigolo, falls in love for the first time. Kodjoe will play the gigolo. So, basically she's getting paid to remake UTCM, right??? new Black cinema: 5000 recycling plots from '85/'86: -1000 WHACK!

Nah, they didn't give a shit about the friendship in Pretty Woman. It was more about Gere discovering an angel in whore's clothing...

In fairness CSq, Prince probably nicked the plot himself from somewhere. Maybe both movies stole it from the same source
One thing you can be sure of though - no one will feel the urge to steal the plot from Grafitti Bridge to remake it haha.

But it bums me out b/c there are so FEW opportunities to make decent Black films in America, so I hate to see one wasted on something we've basically seen before. The only good thing is hoping Boris will be naked (or at least shirtless) frequently in the film - he's lovely!
