Accurate body image and self-acceptance

Do you have an accurate perception of what you look like? Yes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but how much of the image you see in the mirror is influenced about how you feel about yourself? How much is it influenced by what others say? Do you think you see yourself as you truly are?

No. Sometimes I look in the mirror and I'm surprised that I actually look cute lol Most times I don't feel cute. It's that geeky kid in the back of my head reminding me how ugly I look in braces lol

hug The mind is powerful...it's amazing, isn't it? Do you think the way you perceive yourself influences the way other people see you?

And for the record, you are the cutest! smile

My perception of my appearance is not influenced AT ALL by what others say.

I think my body matches what I see in the mirror, but just like everyone else, I'm sure I'm more critical of what I see than how others see me.

I am way to hard on myself.. so my friends say..

I dont like how I look, but other times I look at myself and think.. wow you look amazing!

I dont know where this self conciousness comes from.. but where as I can be a total party animal, full of confidence, flirtacious and maynbe ppl say.. I want her exhuberance, on the other hand, a guy may give me the eye.. or ask me out and I am like, me??? you dont mean it.. and courteously say sorry, no..

neutral

i think i'm closer to knowing what i look like, but i think the mindfuck is that i feel like i look different to different people. i notice when people describe me or comment on my appearance and half the time i think "really? THAT'S what you think? weird."

I truly hate the way I look now, and that is no joke. It absolutely effects who I feel I am as a person.

I've always had issues with body image and yes, I let other's opinions on my appearance influence how I see myself. When you've pretty much been judged by your looks your entire life, striving to maintain them becomes an obsession.

Yup, just one of my many issues that I am trying to work on.

I am alright with how i look i guess.I am never gonna be mistaken for Johnny Depp or Brad Pitt though. I would like to look as good as they do. I don't think anyone considers themselves great looking even if they are. And if they do their ego is out of control. My ex girlfriends liked how i looked. So they saw something that is not noticeable to me.

In a way yes. It affects one's confidence level and if you aren't confident in yourself, how can you expect others to be? Seriously I hate my nose and I know which is my good side and so when someone can see me only from the side I know is the worst, it makes me feel completely self concious. And sometimes I really am shocked when I look in the mirror but in a good way. I was geeky and ugly as a young kid/teen and that has stuck in my head and I have to sometimes remind myself.....you looked totally cute in the mirror this morning, now stop it! mad
