My friends keep cancelling on me!

2 weeks ago, I invited a handful of close friends to my birthday dinner tonight. Sure enough, within the last 24 hours, 1/3 of my guests have cancelled on me. I understand that as we get older it's hard to get more than 2 people together at the same time, but I'm still pretty bummed out. Something tells me it's just going to get worse every year. neutral

you're terrible, PR fishslap

Mango, don't sweat it, have fun with the friend who are there - people have reasons why they can't make it to parties, some serious, some less so; but you shouldn't let that affect the time you have with your other friends.

oh, and happy birthday! cake rose

First of all, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

Second, it's not just as we get older. It is VERY typical to not have everyone you invite make it to your party. I think party planners count on more coming than invited yet know that many just won't be able to make it. Don't let it get you down!

I know the problem, my birthday is on the 28th of December, people are either to busy visiting family or to broke to come and visit me at my birthday

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! bananadance

Go on with your plans with your friends that show, I've learned as I get older there are friends, acquaintances, buddies and pals... your friends will be there unless hell high water or something completely beyond their control will be there to celebrate your day and anything else that life dishes out.

oh, and it will get worse. nod

Christmas birthdays are not easy. My husband of 17 years's birthday is December 25th. I do my best to make that a focal point of our family celebration every year, but let me tell you. I buy him something...is it for Christmas or his birthday. It doesn't get easier.

And having people over to celebrate his birthday? Damn near impossible. sad

People born on Christmas really do get shorted. Other folks have at least two special days in a year, their birthday and Christmas. When your birthday IS on Christmas, it always comes way down the list.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! I'm sure there are reasons why people can't make it, but try and have fun anyway! Don't let it spoil your day!

well Happy Birthday!!!

but still keep the party going with the people who WILL show up, these people are your real friends anyway. That has happened to me ever since I was a kid and i had those child birthday parties. You really realize who will jump through hoops to be there for you and who won't. That's why i don't have many friends today, because you can't depend on them all the time...especially when you yourself is a dependable person.

keep the party going and don't let anyone ruin YOUR DAY!!!!
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

First off, happy happy cake

Second, I find it's a MIRACLE to get even 2 friends together @ a time, let alone have everyone show up @ a party. It may not get worse every year but there will be times when hardly anyone will show, & times when you're overwhelmed w/ who's made the trek 'cause they love you. People can only do what they can do so why bum out over shit you can't control? Have fun w/ the friends who do show & be glad you're not sitting in a corner crying & eating ice cream.

It's your birthday - not a wedding, not a court case, not that big a deal unless you're 9 comfort

I invited six people for my birthday and only four were able to come. I still had an enjoyable birthday with those who did come. And those who couldn't come all had good excuses, so no hard feelings, either. biggrin

Happy birthday honey.

You're only in your 20's, and yes--it does get considerably worse.
But as you get older, your friendships change and mature as do the people who consider friends.

Wow! Thank you for all of the sweet responses! biggrin I haven't been online for a couple of days.

My birthday went very well, and the people who showed had a wonderful time! In the end, I was happy to have a smaller party because the restauant we went to was pretty busy. It was a memorable evening. (except for the moments following a strong mojito, those are a little fuzzy lol )
