With Apple, if something freezes - oh well, yer screwed! Manual restart, bitch!

Those machines are POSs IMO.

Have you even touched a Mac in the last, oh I dunno - FIVE years? I can't even remember the last time I had an OS X system crash hard enough that I had to restart the machine and lose work. Maybe under 10.0 or 10.1 back in 2001 or so there were some early releases where the GUI would freeze and if I didn't want to wait for it to get responsive again, I'd just log in remotely and gracefully restart the system from the terminal... Haven't had any troubles in recent years, though... Just right click the icon of the offending app and chose "Force Quit" and then re-open it.

cool

I started using Macs regularly last year.

And you know what? Stability arguments asided, I just don't like them. There's absolutely nothing appealing about them to me. The interface, the way when I'm in an application and try to save a file to a folder on the network, a new finder window pops up just so I can x it out of the way,the way shit is all overly artsy and animated when there's absoluely no reason for it to be...

And...right click??? You say it like I have an option. Good one. lol

I would never dream of talking anyone out of a Mac at this point. lol

I still remember the day of my salvation - March 31st, 2001. I plunked down money for what was then the top of the line Power Mac and display and haven't regretted it once since then. I've owned several desktop and notebook models since then (just bought the high end Mac mini 2 months ago) and they've all been great. Honestly, though, it's the operating system and apps that keep me on the platform. I originally used NeXTSTEP software and Mac OS X is built on it, so I'm there.

So have the system mount your shares when the computer first logs in and you won't have to worry about that.

Nothing wrong with a little style in an OS, imo, and most of the 'animations' are valid visual cues. I assume you run your Windows systems in "Classic" mode though, rather than play school Luna? If you think OS X uses animations for no reason then Vista will cause blindness.

And...right click??? You say it like I have an option. Good one. lol

If you're stuck on an old Mac you can Ctrl-Click for the context menu, or do something crazy like plug another mouse into the system. I think all current and semi-recent desktop Macs ship with the "Mighty Mouse", though, and it's easily configured to be a multi-button mouse.

lol stop trying to argue. You love it? Fine. It's not like I don't know my way around a Mac. It's just in all my experience with them I've seen absolutely no reason to ever choose one over a PC.

A majority of problems I've seen people have on Windows was due to crappy software and drivers from 3rd party manufacturers, not due to a problem with the OS itself. The Norton and McAfee programs are among the worst, they will make your brand new system run like a 10 year old computer. You go to open a program and have to wait like a minute for the damn screen to open. Take off the AV, and it opens up right away.

Plus, so many software and hardware manufacturers feel the need to shove all kinds of useless system processes and other programs running in the background that you don't need. AOL, Real Player, Google Desktop, Quicktime, you look at some people's taskbars, and half of it is filled with tray icons for stuff they don't even use.

I upgraded to the new McAfee 2007 on our office computers, and had to remove it from several of them because it was causing so many problems. It was constantly locking up the computer every time it would do a system scan, and/or blocking the internet connection, monopolizing Outlook, and constantly popping up messages. preventing the computers from networking, etc...

Macs can run more software than any other PC available today... You can dual boot between different OS's, if needed, and also use Virtualization if OS X itself doesn't run the app.

Ummm, it's because Microsoft is a software house selling to a multitude of hardware makers. Do you think Windows would have a 90% market share if it was only available on a single computer line? H*ll no. If you look at it from a purely hardware standpoint, Apple (which derives it's income from hardware sales) is a top 5 seller. If OS X were suddenly made available to someone like Dell or HP, those market share numbers would change drastically almost overnight.

Well, you are. And you're trying to argue with my opinion, so you can't win anyway.

Do I know how to fix them when they fuck up? No, not really. But other than that I don't really have a problem figuring out how to make it do what I want it to. After all, it's just a machine.

You should pay attention... I haven't argued with your opinion concerning not liking them once. You can dislike them as much as you want, honestly, it's no concern to me. Scream it from the rooftops and I'll still go about my day. I've only made exception to certain issues you've brought up because they don't generally hold true as the norm unless you're talking about Macs from years ago.

Do I know how to fix them when they fuck up? No, not really. But other than that I don't really have a problem figuring out how to make it do what I want it to. After all, it's just a machine.

Judging by your own comments you seem to have troubles that most Mac users don't have, or have little trouble solving... It's not a big deal but that stuff reflects on your personal knowledge and experience with them, not a blanket statement for everyone and the products themselves.

You don't see me responding to Carrie, do you? She had troubles, she didn't feel comfortable with it, end of story... nothing wrong with that.
