Islands in the Carribean.

Okay, I'm goin in April. I've been to the Bahama's and wanna go to an island similar. Like that it's small, not like Jamacia.

I'm thinkin' Aruba, Barbado's, or Antigua.

Suggestions.

No St. Lucia either.

Reincarnate

It depends what you're looking for from your vacation. I've travelled a lot in the Caribbean and have my favourites but these may not necessarily be yours.

All of the islands have areas of poverty and most have areas of extreme wealth as well. Some have a lot of tourist places to visit and some have beaches, forts or waterfalls but others have nothing much in terms of places to visit.

I've been trying to think of my favourite islands but it's really difficult as they all have something I've loved. Puerto Rico has wonderful rainforest and lovely people, Grenada has lovely nutmeg and spice trees and the people are also fantastic but I don't know if I could spend a week there without getting bored. If you're looking for a beach holiday, Antigua is brilliant - it has a beach for every day of the year but some of them do have undercurrents so you have to be careful. Aruba, St Thomas and St Martin are all lovely islands with a little more to do than other places. Barbados has lovely beaches and quite a lot of things for tourists to do (rum factories, caves, waterparks etc.). St Kitts and Nevis I loved on my first visit because I was kayaking but I didn't enjoy it so much on my second as I was in town more and didn't feel safe at times. St Lucia and Trinidad are both lovely but you do have to be a little careful when walking around town.

Two of my favourite islands are Tobago and Tortola - I can't really define why I like them other than they have a "feel" that I like. The only island I have't really enjoyed is Dominica (very extreme poverty) and I wasn't too keen on the Dominican Republic either. And Isla Margarita is nice but there's nothing to do there at all apart from sunbathe and swim. Curacao is nice as there's a real Dutch influence in the architecture and customs.

I can't recommend the Bahamas or Cuba as I haven't been to those areas yet but, for a first visit, I would say that from the ones I've been to Barbados, Aruba, St Thomas or St Martin would be the ones I would choose from.

Hope this helps. Let us know where you decide to go. If it's an island I know, I'll orgnote you some info if I have it.

x

Okay, I looked at Barbuda. I never even heard of it before, but it looks awesome, and not full of civilization yet. Really nice, but is there enough to do there for a week, and do the birds shit everywhere like seagulls?

Reincarnate, Thanks! You brought Curacao up, and I was looking into that earlier. The only thing that shyed me away was I'd like to stay in a superclub, like breezes or sandals. Just cuz thats what i've stayed at before, and i know i liked it. There were only 2 all inclusive resorts there and they were only rated 3.0.

I haven't been to Barbados before, so I don't know much about it yet. We bought a guide book about it and have a video cassette, so I don't know a lot myself yet wink. We didn't even choose Barbados as a destination, but my boyfriend won the trip as the winner of a photo contest woot!.

I like Anguilla. Tiny, tiny, tiny. Great if you want more of an reclusive type of holiday as I think its less than 30 miles long (maybe even less than 20). It's not cheap though, but worth every penny and the people are warm and friendly.

I would say Bermuda. It gets overlooked a lot but it's absolutely beautiful. Aruba is nice but very Americanized so if you want something a little different don't go there. St. Thomas is also nice if you stay within the resort areas, it's a very poor country outside of the resorts. BUT you can take a ferry over to St. John and it is breath taking there.

All in all you can't really pick a bad Caribbean island! Check out places in Bermuda though, I don't think you'd be disappointed.

Aaaah, try the Keys first! I'm usually only there for work trips but some of the best tropical experiences I've had in my life (if you're into the private reclusive thing) are on Isle Morada (Islamorada) at The Moorings Resort!!!! Not cheap, but worth every penny, worth saving the $$$ for...you'll feel like you're in another space and time 6,000 miles away from the cold North American horizon
drooling drooling drooling drooling

...there are so many stateside hideaways in S.Florida that are only known and used by people in fashion and advertising...I think they would be a real treat to experience for people who genuinely LOOOOOVE to travel. There are tons of places you can party in the tropics (of which I include S.Florida), but if you want something chilled out, exquisitely beautiful, and simultaneously peaceful...there are sooo many hangouts for that cool
