the grey has started

I had to buy a winter coat finally. And my scarf and mittens are always around now. And my elecrtic space heater has been pulled out of the closet. And there's almost no leaves left on the trees. And the grass is starting to look pale. And I think the sun officially went into hiding today. It's 8:30 in the morning, but it looks like twilight. Just dull grey as far as the eye can see. And it's pitch dark when I leave for work in the morning. And the sun sets by about 5. Soon enough it'll be dark by 4 in the afternoon. And then cold really sets in.

sigh

winter sadness, what a drag how can something so beautiful bring depression to the soul.

It's already dark by 4 o'clock in the afternoon here. And I've been wearing my winter coat for a few weeks. I imagine Mpls gets as cold as Scotland, so there's no point going on about how cold it is here! But it is eek

Sucks, doesn't it? Here keep warm hug

Actually, it's probably 4 here too. I don't know. I'm tucked into my apartment by then most days. lol
And it's been cold off and on here. It got cold really quick this fall, but then we'd have odd days where it warmed up too. Wednesday we had insanely unseasonably gorgeous weather. I went walking around the lake after work in just a T shirt and capri pants. I stayed outside till the sun was all the way down cause I just sort of knew that was the last time I'd see it for a while.

I guess I'm just finally surrendering myself to winter.

i never know if i'm going to have a good seasonal affective disorder year or a bad one. last year i was all geared up to be a depression case, and i was fine. this year i didn't even think about it, and i think perhaps i may be having a rocky time of it already. it's always a surprise, and oh boy, i love surprises.

anyway.

i always spell it 'grey', simply out of devotion to 'grey gardens'.

I hear ya, everything looks bleak this time of year. Unless there's a nice snowfall or something, you're stuck looking at dead empty trees and brown leaves on the ground, and mud.

The one thing thats nice though is the air this time of year, it smells cleaner for some reason, the humidity goes away, it's got a crisp chill, and sometimes you can smell people's fireplaces burning.

I knew you were going to reference that lol

It's brilliant and sunny here today, but in a few weeks Michigan will be a grey smudge until late March.

Carrie, I thought you were talking about gray hair.

After years of "light brown" hairs, I've discovered about 5 real grays within the past 3 months or so...

sad

Gray hair! The gray has started... cry

Here, enjoy this radiohead lyric.

Everything, everything, everything, everything..
In its right place
In its right place
In its right place
In its right place

Yesterday I woke up sucking a lemon
Yesterday I woke up sucking a lemon
Yesterday I woke up sucking a lemon
Yesterday I woke up sucking a lemon

Everything, everything, everything..
In its right place
In its right place
In its right place
Right place

There are two colours in my head
There are two colours in my head
What, what is that you try to say?
What, what was that you tried to say?
Tried to say.. tried to say..
Tried to say.. tried to say.. tried to say...

Everything, everything, everything..
Everything in its right place

HAHA! That's what I've been expecting this thread to be about, too!

I've got a couple of white hairs myself. Well, not now. I did the full head shave this week. I like gray hair, though. (don't cry, ThreadBare pat) I would rather have gray hair than no hair, but the grass is always greener....

And as for grey/gray, I, too, prefer "grey", but there are specific things to me that seem to warrant each spelling.

gray hair
gray cat
gray car

and a gray sky is different to me from a grey sky

maybe i'll name my son Grey.
let me come over it's a beautiful day to play with you in the dark
