workplace wonders

A funny thing happened to me today. My co-worker confronted my boss about giving her a raise and gave her an ultimatum - "Either pay me this or I can't work another hour". I was in the next room and couldn't help but hear every word.

The boss said no. The employee explained the reasons why she deserved a raise.
The boss said no. The employee said she couldn't work unless she got a raise.
The boss said no. The employee said she'll just finish up her projects and go.

Then...the employee wouldn't leave. The boss told her to go. The employee cried. The boss told her she could not give her a raise, but to go home and think about it if she still wanted her job. Employee goes home.

....flash forward...mid-afternoon...

My boss is gone. I am alone in the office. My cell phone rings. It's my boss.

She says hi. Then: "I'm going to give you a dollar an hour raise. lol Now get back to work."

I've got a similar situation...

I have to go to one of my companies larger properties as the Asst. Manager, a position a guy there has been wanting for quite a while. He almost got canned yesterday by the Regional, and now I have to walk into what seems like a lion's den today. Not looking forward to it. He's supposedly leaving on his own because they won't give him "what he thinks he should be paid". He doesn't know that I got a raise just to go over there because they're drowning. razz

I know. She would have gotten some kind of raise if she hadn't pulled the ultimatum thing, I think. But then, she probably still wouldn't be happy. She wasn't really pulling her weight in the office and yet was all begrudged about her pay. So the situation was confusing for everybody.

Life is weird. There's probably a good reason why he's in that situation and a good reason why you're getting the rewards. And the reasons my not always be obvious...just how we approach life in general, etc.

I do my job and I work my ass off, that's why.

Soooo many people today want something for nothing, and take advantage of their situations.

So is your co-worker still working there? Maybe the dollar per hour is a cut of the savings they're getting from her leaving. lol

I think the boss decided to cut her off entirely and my raise was a part of her doing that. My co-worker was too wishy-washy...she gave an ultimatum then said she wanted to clean up with the filing and not leave us in a lurch... confused She was too emotionally high-maintenance. She had to be somewhat escorted out so we could finally get back to work.
