Theoreticaly speaking

Say you swim laps. or dog paddle. tread water. You're in a lane, the pool gets busy and you have to double up on the lane. Someone gets in and swims the butterfly...and.. you're drowning.(all that turbulence)

What do you do? Say nothing and struggle.
Tell the guy, Is it possible in view of the limited space, to do another stroke?
that allows us both to swim?
Ask the lifeguard on duty to help out so you can swim.
Or, get out of the pool?

This isn't about swimming....

If there was another lane to switch to I would do that first. If not, I say ask the lifeguard. I used to be a lifeguard all through HS & college and I would be sympathetic to your plight. Maybe the lifeguard could switch you into a lane with a swimmer of similar pace/stroke. Who swims laps of the butterfly anyway? wacky I would think that stroke is way to tiring to do for more than a few laps unless you're training for the olympics or something.

Or you could switch to the sidestroke and do a mean scissor kick so that just as the person passes your foot hits the butter right in the fly. lol
The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

Funny..defensive swimming. There is a rare individual whose need to do the butterfly back and forth in a lane with a regular swimmer supercedes consideration and probably deserves an "accidental" kick.

Since the topic is theoretical.....Let the guy have his way?? at your expense?...since he's wrong with his turbulent swimming stroke in an environment where there's other swimmers? are you a submissive person?

I like you. If I'm in a lane with Mr. Butterfly guy, I'll switch lanes so you can take care of the "in his own world" situation. Need more people like you.

How's this?? You appeal to the lifeguard and....."nope...I don't see a problem"....because it's his buddy's doing the butterfly. not to make the dilemma more complex.

Ew. On swimteam. After practice we used to just hop in the showers with our suits still on just to wash our hair and rinse off.

Well this one chic, used to just pull the bottom of her suit over and stand there and pee in the shower.

And she would openly do this rite in front of everyone, like it was totally normal.

YUP. Choices, and how you lead your life. At what point are you intimidated?? Best response I've gotten so far, is the "sidekick theory."

if the pool is busy so you have to double up then there probably wouldn't be a free lane to move to.

but yeah, i'm definately a "don't make a ripple" kinda person
might throw a dirty look or two but i never speak up. neutral

but i will bitch about it when i come home lol

You are entirely missing the discussion. It's all abstract. It's not about swimming or swimmers

Okay. Out of the choices you put, I'd get out of the pool.

And bitching about it when you get home changes....what?? Next time you're at the pool, the problem/butterfly guy is still there and he likes to swim in your lane, because you don't complain, unlike other swimmers who raise hell. Do you think for some reason, you need to be punished in life??

Yeah. I don't like confrontation and avoid it at all costs. I'd rather just get outta the pool than say something to the person or the lifegaurd.

Yeah. I didn't say that thats the rite way to be, but I know thats how I am, and I admit to it being stupid. I just like to stay pleasant and keep the peace.

It's not necessarily "being stupid." When have you ever NOT been pleasant or kept the peace?? Never???? In your entire life?

No not never. But it take a whole lot to push me to that point. I mean A LOT. And even when I do confront someone, if they continue to argue or whatever, I usually just back down.

Like a week ago I was actually in a position where I was in my car getting ready to leave and my sister in law stood in the door with her foot up on my car, and kept pushing for me to argue with her. I kept saying I don't wanna get into it, but she kept it up, until I finally got a little snippey, but I noticed that when I WAS defending myself to her I couldn't even look her in the eye, and my heart started pounding and I started shaking, and then I started crying, and then she finally let it go and let me leave.

Point is. I hate to get into it with people. shrug

I'm not saying you always have to take the bull by the horns.
Regarding your sister in law, if I were in that situation, any shaking and spasms going on, would be her, as I traumatically amputated her leg when I drove off.
Sounds like a house I'd avoid. Also sounds like unlawful restraint. Anytime you're in a situation you can't physically leave, grab the cell phone and dial 911. The law is on your side, and people like that don't want police in their lives. Good luck.(look her in the eye while you're dialing 911)

eek I'd let out an ear shattering, blood curdling scream. They would leave the pool if not my lane.
