Neil Patrick Harris is gay – and wants to quell recent reports that he had denied it. The actor tells PEOPLE exclusively:
"The public eye has always been kind to me, and until recently I have been able to live a pretty normal life. Now it seems there is speculation and interest in my private life and relationships. "So, rather than ignore those who choose to publish their opinions without actually talking to me, I am happy to dispel any rumors or misconceptions and am quite proud to say that I am a very content gay man living my life to the fullest and feel most fortunate to be working with wonderful people in the business I love." Harris, 33, currently stars in the CBS comedy How I Met Your Mother. He shot to fame in 1989 at age 16 when he played a teen-prodigy doctor on the hit Doogie Howser, M.D. "It was a very fast but wonderful education," he told PEOPLE in 1998. After the show went off the air in 1993, he shook off his teen image with roles in the musicals Rent and Assassins and a wild turn as an unhinged version himself in the 2004 movie Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle. "I'm enjoying my 30s," he told PEOPLE in 2004. "I feel like I know where I'm going. And I like where I'm going." Well, this is a total non-shocker. Right up there with Lance Bass' announcement.
Still, yay for him for making it official. I looooove me some Doogie. Now if only he could transport his HIGHlarious character on "How I Met Your Mother" on to a show that was actually funny...

Anyone remember that episode of Will & Grace where he played a guy who ran a support group for people who used to be gay? Jack, of course, tries to hit on him...

Well How I met your mother which is the show he is on now, is well written and rather fun.
Plus for alot of Buffy and Angel actors have done cameos so its fun for me. The Most Important Thing In Life Is Sincerity....Once You Can Fake That, You Can Fake Anything.

I remember that one! The support group was called "Welcome Back Home" but Jack called it "Welcome Back, Homo." Oh boy..seems like People is giving OUT and The Advocate a run for their money this yeah. And while we're on the subject. I am HIGHLY upset that Lance and Reichen got an award from the HRC. Well what the fuck for? Lance sucking his dick in the closet? I've sucked dicks in closets, showers, stalls, you name it. Where's my damn award at? Body messager? Please

As a Hollywood gossip junkie, I don't remember there ever being a time when so many celebs came out in such a short period of time. I applaud Neil and have been a fan since Doogie. I think Barney is one of the funniest characters on TV in a while. All good things they say never last...

Was anyone really surprised? Whenever he was on talk shows and he was asked about his love life they never asked if there was a special woman in his life. They would say "someone". And he would say the same thing. He never mentioned women at all. Always "someone".
