Dan, I respectfully disagree with your posts. I do not look to The Beautiful Ones as inspiration to try to look my best. If I wanted to do that, it would be because I wanted to and not because some chick who's dumb as a box of rocks looks great.

I always wanted someone to value ME, not what they saw on the outside, whic I will call unpretty. I heard for years that I should dress a certain way or wear makeup, etc. So, I gave it the old college try and you know what? That ain't me. I love ME, not the made-up mascara, dress wearing person I tried to be. If someone can't look past the outside and get to know the inside, fuck 'em. I'll stick to wearing jeans and khakis and t-shirts and loving ME.

Touche'. You are right. It is not that particular person's fault that society in general values the outside as opposed to the inside.

I want to say for the record. I do not think all beautiful folk are dumb as a box of rocks.

But it is a reality that many use that one "blessing" to get along in life and have things handed to them on a silver platter and many don't learn anything other than that one game because they don't need to.

That you've obtained that level of self-realization is great.
But we must remember that just becuase they're good looking doesn't make them stupid. Anx is a hottie, but no idiot.

And I don't think it's a bad thing that you don't look to the "hotties" for inspiration. All I'm saying is that they are not something to be loathed. Not something to be feared, and not something to be hated. They are what they are--very good looking people.
Those of us who choose to admire them strictly for that feature aren't "full of shit" as so many on this thread have put it. We simply see beauty for what it is. Something to be admired, and inspire--and nothing more.

I don't treat the good looking folks any better than anyone else. But if I want to masturbate to porn, Goddamnit, I'm going to have a yank to Jenna Jemison--not Rosie O'donnel. lol

I find it interesting that many people, who feel that people should not be judged by their looks, often also assume that the so called "beautiful people" are stupid or shallow or do not accomplish anything in life but looking good.

They are judging people simply by the way they look - the very thing they are crapping on others for doing.
I can't speak for anyone else but I usually wait til someone opens their mouths before I refer to them as stupid or shallow.

Since I've already derailed this fine thread into an argument about supermodels vs. Steven Hawkin, I would like to just say that even if Anx had a big sloppy ass, it would *still* be my avatar. shrug

I'm not saying at all that beautiful people are dumb, which is why I said some but ya gotta admit, people like Paris Hilton or a Jessica Simpson or even a Beyonce are not very bright. I would still rather be me than them.

I do not hate beautiful people, I do not hate anyone but I'm not going to act like they are better than me because they happen to be prettier.

But when you see someone in great shape and decked out to the nines that doesn't inspire you?

Or when you see someone who is really good at something, do you not want to do better?

I'm not talking about a jealousy impulse, or a comparing-myself-to-that-person desire, but just pure "inspiration".

I mean, when I hear music by someone I love, I get inspired to learn it.
Likewise, when I see someone who just looks knockout great, it makes inspires me to get back in the gym because I know I can look and feel better myself.
Nope.

You know, I don't care that he was in some boy band that made crappy music. He was just a kid at the time anyway. And I don't care about who he is as a person. I just happen to dig his solo albums.

He is naturally skinny, but he's still got a cute face.

Ah....wow...to be completely honest with you all...I didn't expect this thread to go the way it has gone. But, I, as with others here, have (obviously) strong opinions about this topic and I think we've arrived at some interesting points. (btw, Dan...I didn't mean to lash out at you...that was not my intent...but, my dad was a truckdriver and swore like one, so "bullshit" is what came out lol )

After reading all of this and digesting it a bit...I guess it simply comes down to what we each value...for example, I couldn't care less about wearing a pair of low-rise jeans or if my man has six-pack abs, it's just not important to me. Yes, I take care of myself and take pride in my appearance (I pick the nicest photos of myself to post here batting eyes lol )...do I have a perfect body? Hell no. I'd have to quit my job and work out eight hours a day, every day to get that (it's just the way my metabolism is) and I can't do that. But, I'm healthier and look younger than most people my age...ask my doctor. wink
We ALL have qualities that are beautiful...and things about us that are exceptional and should value ourselves (and ideally, should be valued by others) for those things. Throughout history and from culture to culture what has been considered to be physically ideal has changed so drastically and will continue to do so...and that is based upon many things...but, to devalue a person to the point of insult or to believe that said person is not deserving of love or happiness is just almost inhuman, imho...and, frankly, it's awfully painful. Yes, we should all strive to be take care of ourselves and be our best (whatever that is for ourselves) but, we all cannot be measured by such a narrow standard of excellence.
