Can someone PLEASE explain to me the need for the volleyball scene in Top Gun?
And why is the song Kenny Loggins sings during it titled "Playing With The Boys"?

Can somebody please tell me why JerseyKRS is *watching* Top Gun? And not fast forwarding through the volleyball scene? I mean, I had no clue there was a volleyball scene, it's been so long since I"ve seen it.

It's a metaphor. Or an allegory, if you will.
You have the net (that represents the wall between the civilians and the airmen, the wall between the different squads etc)); then you have the beautiful beach (that represents the sexy but competent trainer played by whatshername); then there is the game itself (that represents the intense high-pressure situation in which those guys find themselves every day). Then there is the volley ball. That represents Tom Cruise's testicles.
