one door closes, another door opens up. Perhaps you're not happy working there anyway..what you should do is get the client list, and go out and form AppleKisses Inc.; work for yourself!

The high costs of health care and health insurance make it tough to try and go out on one's own. I've thought about doing this as well, but there's no way I could afford the insurance needed for my family. confused

that's a defeatist attitude. some of the largest corporations started off small.
look at amazon. Nike shoes were made on waffle irons for god sakes. now they're made in third world countries, paying laborers 30c an hour. point being, a life lived in fear is a life not worth living.

nod There's no way I could afford the insurance for myself. Also, it costs money to start a business...I have none lol I'm still recovering from the last layoff a year and a half ago.

I just found out the details...this round is going to be 45 people at one of our hospitals (I work for a huge health system that has 10,000 employees) and will work its way through the system. I asked my boss if we were going to be hit again and she said she wasn't sure, but it should all happen by the end of the year.

I'm a little scared.

I know exactly how you feel!

I've just had one of the worst days of my life, I work for the UKs 2nd largest bakery chain (not much of a job but it pays the mortgage) and apparently we've gone bust! Hundreds of people were laid off this morning and I think we're going to have a second round tomorrow. I'm absolutely crapping myself, I'm in debt up to my eyeballs and xmas is coming.

Basically I'm fucked!!!!
Some people are like Slinkies...

They're good for nothing but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.

I thought you were like a jack (or jill in this case)-of-all-trades in that place. Don't they make you do everything? Laying you off doesn't sound so smart to me. Either way I wish you the best of luck and hope whatever happens makes your life even better. hug

And if Miss Detroit has to move to NYC, so be it. razz

giggle hug Thanks, sweetie pie.
I am jill of all...but, it still is a little scary...I'm still continuing to look for other jobs (because, as I've said, I'm not happy here) so I think, in the end, all will work out for the best...whether it's here or in NYC wink

I'm a graphic designer in the retail industry, and you now how crazy the retail business is. We've had several shakeups within the past ten years and lost half our design staff. I've been here 13 years, but I don't take anything for granted. I always keep my resume & portfolio updated just in case.

Hope things work out.
