It's quite dark in places really. Funny how these sorta movies were so popular in animation in the late 70's- kid 80's, then thundercats et all came along, then it sorta died. Now thanx to the excellent "lord of the rings" live action movies, they are back in fashion. Infact, Ralph Baski's cartoon of "lord of the rings" is now quite popular. That was very hard to find (as most bashki's were)
before Peter Jackson came along. Shame Baski never got to finish the story.

I read at IMDB they were making "..unicorn" into a live action? Not anymore it seems.

Now i hear a live action "book of three" in pre-production (thats disney's "black cauldron), now that would be cool.

As the film was a bomb, Bashki could not fund to make the next installment. Shame, as the atmosphere was captured very well. Tolkien was reported as saying that Disney wanted the rights to make the cartoon, but he thought the would make it too cutesy, so he gave it to ralph baski, who had already made cartoons that are still a bit contraversial today. U might dig Bashki's "wizards", which is now on DVD. Its an OK film.

Disney got their own back on Tolkien so to speak and bought the rights to "the book of three". One of the installments of that book, "the black cauldron" was made by Disney and was meant to be their biggest ever movie (certainly one of the most expensive). I prefer it to the cartoon "lord of the rings" personally. U should check it out someday. No songs are in it I promise LOL
