That black window was a command prompt. You can bring it up by going to the Start Menu and choosing Run and typing in "cmd".

As for all the files on your computer being deleted, it sounds alot like a virus.

The virus isn't gone. you have to have it taken care of. it apparently didn't wipe out your programs, just your files.

He was probably having you check your IP address. You can do that by going to a command prompt and typing in "ipconfig". It's harmless.

That black window will pop up for a variety of reasons, when installing programs, updating programs, etc... it's just a part of Windows. Deleting all the files on your computer against your will is another story, LOL.....

Some viruses can damage your antivirus program, especially if you let the update subscription expire, or haven't updated the virus definitions in a long time, or worse yet, disabled virus scanning and forgot to turn it back on.

You might want to try out a different virus scanning program for a second opinion, because it sounds like you got something nasty on there. AVG offers it's antivirus program for free, Worth a shot at least.

Look for "free scan for Virus's" (Middle of page on the right) and just click the link.

As Tom said, some viruses can damage your AV software and if you do have a serious Virus you may not be able to install a new one or it may corrupt the program as you install it - So doing the Online Virus check will at least let you know if and what you have - it will also be able to help you remove it by offering you a link to the Correct removal tool if needed.

Just follow the instructions its fairly simple.

Sure, they can help me with stuff, but not this.
