i'm not ready to take care of a human-esque dog
cats are easier. you can go away for the weekend and they will hardley notice you are gone lol

i think with animals you have to be fully aware of
the years of commitment you are giving when you decide to have one.
that fuzzy little kitten will be a geriatric in 20 years
that cuddley puppy will need you to pick up it's poop for 15 years

heck, if my father had stopped to realize that our horses would live 30 years
i don't think he would have been so quick to bring three home when i was little eek

and purple jedi... i don't think you would be so quick to send the animal off to the pound smile not if you have allowed it into your family and created a bond with it. rather i bet you would try to eliminate the source of stress for the kitty

(my cat gets bored being inside in the winter and grooms his belly too much... i have made an outdoor enclosure so they can go out when it's nice - hopefully he will stop overgrooming smile )

A co-worker of mine is dealing with a cat that has a nervous condition and is licking all the fur off its body. He's tried medication, and collars, and all sorts of things. I do not have the patience for that. I would've sent it to the pound by now.

Tell ur co-worker 2 go get Scullcap & Valerian Drops or tablets, the Scullcap & Valerian will calm the cats apprehension, phobias, hyperactivity & anxiety’s. Also 2 use Essential Oil of Garlic & Powdered Fenugreek the garlic has antibiotic, antiseptic and anti-viral properties it will help 2 remove the toxins from the cat’s system, the Fenugreek will help resolve the cats skin problems.
Tell this person 2 get it from a holistic Veterinary website or a homeopathic vet.

Get a bottle of Pure Garlic Juice (spray bottle) spray onto the area it should stop the licking & will help heal & soothe any painful area's.
It's also good for cleaning there paws and ears and helps stop ear mites in cats and dogs.

I love animals!! I just adore them and animals love me right back lol they do!! But i haven't owned a pet since my dog Tommy had to be put down back in 1999. I DO want to care for another pet but not yet i guess. I'd love to have another dog or even get a cat- though the cat thing would have to wait till i'm not at home cause i'm the only cat lover here i think lol . Oh it did hurt so bad when we had to put my Tommy down, poor old boy. But at least he wasn't in pain when we did it. But i couldn't hack it- i reckon i got a bit depressed to tell you the truth, i grew up having this black n white critter around me always! But i love looking after other people's pets!!! It'z SO such fun- they all have different little personalities giggle so shweet!! mushy

Animals are cool I love them. Especially dogs. Dogs love attention and make you feel good after a crappy day! This is why I have a dog.

I have a cat, a dog, and 2 cockatiels.
My cat and cockatiels were rescued from bad homes and my Australian Cattle dog is a good little watch dog and friend for on my long walks. My dog believes everyone that lives here belongs to her, takes very good care of us. biggrin

You should get one, they're very good company. Do some research into what type of dog has the personality you like and then find him or her at the SPCA or animal rescue place.
My dog made life so much better when I was getting used to being on my own.

nod
Although my brother got a chihuahua and trained him to pee & poop on some sanitary sheets (I don't know what they're called but they resemble a flat diaper).

So while they're away it's penned in the dining room and he does his thing on the diaper/sheets.

I had a pet rabbit that I taught to use the litter box. She was a kick. She used to wait until I was taking a nap and decide to hop up on my bed and lick my ear. I also trained her to be on a leash and to play fetch (used small cat/bird toys), She did have a tendecy to have rabbit races thru my apartment. she would take off from her pen, run under the bed, into the closet and back. Sometimes I think she would forget that the kitchen has linolem(sp?) and miss the edge of the carpet and slide off in it. The thing you would hear was a thud where she hit the wall. My poor baby lol She hated to see the carrier come out cause she equatted that to trips to the vet. There was a love/hate relationship going there. Hated the vet but loved the treats. Man I miss my bunny. Btw her name was Bubba. We thought she was a he when she was found. Someone let her loose in my driveway at my old apartment. I think she was a Easter present that wasn't wanted.

I love dogs, we have 3 of them, They stay at my parents because I'm not allowed to have them at my apartment. When I lived there, the oldest one, Dominique, would wake me up each morning by bumping her nose into my face. And when I sit on the couch, she scoots up right next to me and places her head on my lap and watches TV with me, I get greeted by all 3 of them each time I visit, they all bring me one of their toys smile

Onion and garlic can both cause Heinz body anemia (damaged red blood cells) in dogs and cats. However, the quantity that a dog would have to eat would be substantial, especially if it's not a teensy dog -- cats are more sensitive. I don't know if the greens have the same effect. Ask JasmineFire (she's a vet student). smile

Edit: I have known clients who have given their dogs garlic tablets for fleas (ineffective, BTW), and the dogs were clinically doing fine. A critter can have quite a bit of cell damage before becoming symptomatic, though.

Edited edit: All of this with the caveat that I am just a random person on the internet and you should ask your veterinarian (and not some woowoo homeopath who doesn't believe in research). wink
