"Flip this House " on A/E

Wondering if there are any fans out there of this show ...

(it is slightly confusing because i think Discovery channel or TLC have shows that are called "flip that house" ...)

I loved the first season ... for those of you who get these shows "screwed up" ... the first season followed "trademark properties" which are out of North Carolina i think ... they have some interesting "charactors " on the show ... the owner .... is Richard Davis ....

well --- they were running re-runs for ever .... then ... they just recently started airing "new shows" with a "team from atlanta" who happen to be African American .... and a team from San ANtonio - who happen to be spanish or mexican ... not sure ... ANYWAYS .... i was alittle down on the "new season" .... i find the Atlanta crew to be more "real" and kinda funny ... they seem to be working with more realistic budgets and not into just buying some $300,000 house and making it a 650,000 house with a 50K budget the way some seemed in the 1st season ....

the San Antonio bunch just seemed to get on me ....

so where is this going ??? i was online at the discussion sites ... for "flip this house" and i was surprised HOW MANY PEOPLE HATE THE NEW CASTS !!! ... some of the comments are downright funny ... of course some of em are pretty racist too ....

then i found out --- about --- flipthislawsuit.com

anyone hear about this --- the old crew are sewing .... and the comments there are funny too ... anyhow ... just curious if anyone watches this stuff ... "flipping houses" seems to be something that alot of people aspire to ! confused neutral wink

I dont like the san antonio crew...not at all!
I dont know what it is about them. They seem shady and conceited!

I like the Atlanta crew, they're funny.
I dont mind watching them.

http://www.aetv.com/flipthishouse/

that is the website for the show ... if u see that screen .. then u just go to the discussions ....

i think some of the comments are funny ... and some are RIGHT ON ... i mean ... some are too harsh on the San Antonio crew ... but i gotta admit ... some of the comments i thought were so true! ... i saw the show where they pitted the men vs the ladies and .... well ... lets just say ... the men did not play fair and i thought they were kinda poor sports ... didnt the ladies even win !!??

the old crew ... the trademark crew --- that website about the lawsuit etc ... is very interesting to read ... it says that the Atlanta crew "leader" i think even lost his state license already !!! lol
that site is : http://www.flipthislawsuit.com/

So is the new cast the Atlanta Crew?

there are 2 new casts.... apparently as the story goes ... the "trademark-1st season crew" wanted to branch out and have "partners " in other locations , etc ... and A&E went out on their own and hired 2 new crews ---- the one in Atlanta and the one in San Antonio ... wink

Heh... house-flipping is so 2005. Money magazine's website now has a regular feature about a person or couple who's stuck with a house they can't sell.

i actually have to respectfully disagree with ya Matt... just because "any national magazine says _____" do NOT think it applies to the whole country ...

in my area - Real Estate is such a conservative fixture/investment .... it just keep goin up ... in general .... we havent seen the big swings like Florida or California is subject to ...

its like the stock market ...just because the market may be down between jan and march .... it doesnt mean that people are NOT still making money on investments .... wink

i am not a house flipper ... i have been "watching " a few houses locally to see about possibly doin it ... but very casually ... i did talk to a guy the other day who does it ... and he has one sitting ... but ... i just looked it up (online) and it is in a terrible location .... i mean .. basic 101 real estate ... location location location ... wink

We flip to rent.

We might flip our own house and rent it out in a few years.
Now is not the time to sell.

And I dont consider it a trend either.

i am not sure it is a "trend " or not ... but in general .. you know America ... if one person is doing it and makin money and it looks fun ... then everyone thinks they can do it !

my general consensus on it ... from talking with construction guys that do it or have done it ... alot of em say "i put too much money into this or that" ... after wards .... (like they put granite counter tops in the kitchen and then sold it for less than they should have ...)

yeha I have watched this show

I dont like realtors or contractors.

most are liars and cut corners and hide things to save themselves money/maximize thier profit

they dont care about honestly and integrity

but then again what person who is selling anything cares about those qualities.

I really dont get why they would be so proud to show off the renovated house to the people they just purchased it from. Thier smuggness is a turn off too, like they are some trend setter in home design. lol Everything is CHEAP.

i appreciate your comments .... i actually have changed my opinions on realtors and contractors ALOT over the years ... having worked with both very much ... as is the case with most businesses .... the ole saying applies ... business is business ... everyone is doin it to make money ...

there are good lawyers ... and bad ones ... there are good doctors and bad ones ....

i worked for 2 builders that were horrible ... they used subcontractors who they didnt pay (esp on time!) to maximize profits .... then - as i was ready to hang up my "tights" ... i got hired by a builder that was awesome .... so totally NOT what the other ones i described ... guess which - of the three i told u about above are still in business ??? of course the third one ... wink

i do not have kids that are that age yet ... but ... i always think ... "thank god i am not 15-20 now ... damn ... the scary stuff that kids get into !

it is an eye opening experience ... especially those kids that get hooked on stuff that i never heard of ... when i was young .... meth ... etc ...

what is shocking is that most of them seem to have some "life altering " thing that happened to them ... like ... they were molested by a family friend when they turned 14 or somethin ....

i always turn the show on ... watch 10 min and say i gotta flip it off at the next commmercial .... then ... stay tuned ! wink

I get depressed watching these house flipping shows. It's frustrating to see people hike the price of a house up like $50,000 or so, just because they painted a few walls and snapped in some cheap faux-hardwood flooring. Most of these improvements I've seen them do were done real sloppy and will probably have to be fixed by the homeowner in the near future. It's irritating to watch the prices of these homes fluctuate so drastically for no good reason, as if there's no clear criteria to determine the real value of a given house. It makes me all the more apprehensive about getting a place of my own because I feel like I'm gonna get ripped off by someone just trying to turn a profit, then get stuck with a money pit afterwards.

Tom - you sound like Professor Positive !

(kiddin ya )

seriously tho --- the great thing about real estate is that alot of things are available to ya ... online .. etc ... what the person before you PAID for the house is usually easy to track down .... all public information and alot of Counties around me have it available ONLINE nowadays (which is kinda scary what someone can find out about u .. but that is another topic)

i always say to people .... shop shop and shop ... especially for real estate ... you may lose a few homes and say ... damn i wish i had bid higher on that house , etc ... but it is worth it in the long haul so u have a better feel for homes and prices ... around me --- some of your comments ring true ! I do worry cus sometimes people just put some lil touches in a house and flip them for a nice profit ... but that is AMERICA !!! I will say that most of the flipper shows seem to make it look alot easier than people say --- i have talked to flippers and sometimes they buy the wrong house and sit on them ... or they agree to sell them for less than they thought ... etc ...

another point about "flip this house" which is on A&E ----- some of the houses do NOT sell .... they air the programs and u have to look closely ... some say "potential profit" --- in other words it did not sell YET ... i saw on the discussion boards that the one they did that was on the water --- where the owner of the company jumped off a helicopter into the lil lake/sea or bay .... that one was sitting and sitting on the market !!! (even a yr + after the show aired !!!) so some of those flippers are just making money off the show i bet and then just sittin on some of the properties ! wink

I get screwed enough as it is everytime I buy or lease a car, I'm all paranoid of getting hosed when I buy my first house. I didn't realize you could look up the price people initially paid for the house, that's good news at least, to help see if the improvements warrant the difference in price.

its quite easy to look up .... maybe some counties do not let you do it ONLINE ... but if you stop by the county courthouse most of those people that work there will offer to help you if u tell them what u are doing and act stupid ....

i do the same thing with cars ... it just took me months of looking ... and i finally bought a car/truck off of someone i knew ... and i still had a couple of little problems with it (but i still think i got it for wayyyy under the value of it )... i dont know if i will ever buy a new car again ... but recently i was looking for a little pickup truck .... spur of the moment i stopped by a dealor ... and they had one that they wanted to sell me for 16,000 (little toyota) and ... i was like ... "i can afford that .... but i just saw a similar one for 10K" ... they came right away without any furthor haggling down to 13K ... i was like ... damn ... 3k price drop on a 16k price tag??? i was tempted to see how far down i could get em ... but i left it end there ...
