As long as you do not overly focus on that part, just take it along in your stride.

But I have seen pics, heard stories; you are a terrific parent!

Adopt me!

No, I just try to teach them how it feels from both sides....and to try not to hurt others ...I am lucky to be blessed with 2 wonderful souls as children...that even teach me in many ways ...
And kiss2 thank u ...when it comes to them ...I thank my lucky stars . .and I know they will grow to be honorable beautiful adults ....and I would adopt u any day hun mr.green

It's hard to say. It probably is a generalisation but certainly most of the gay men I know hate sport and some lesbians seem to like it. My housemate (lesbian) is one of the most active people I know, sports-wise. nod But obviously there are always going to be exceptions to the 'rule'.

I think, in some ways (except for the 'Fuck you!' part giggle) that Herman's right. I think some of this stems from childhood and either (a) being expected to know the rules of the game - when no-one's ever bothered to explain them to you or (b) always being the last to be picked. My experience of sports teachers - not you, karmatornado hug - is that they can be quite bullying and aren't interested unless you're one of the 'sports stars'. These things do have an effect on you. nod Especially when all the other boys are out playing football and you're in class doing needlecraft falloff (as in my case).

But again, this will never be cut-and-dry. Some will, some won't. My experience is that most gay men don't. But getting into sport is one thing I'd like to develop. nod

I can't tell you why or if gay men hate sports - I can only tell you why *I* hate sports.

For me, it goes back to being expected to like something simply because I was a boy and that's what boys are supposed to like. Even as a little kid, I thought sports were boring and I never understood the value of chasing some ball around and following a bunch of weird rules. Fuck that, I wanted to draw robots.

Because I never understood the importance of sports (and because my mom never pushed it on me, and thus we lived in a sports-free household), I was looked down upon by the jocks in school and picked last in gym class, blah blah blah. I didn't really care. It was alienating, but why would I care if the jocks liked me? If we hung out, they'd only want to do sports crap anyway, so good riddance. lol

Do I dislike sports because I'm gay? Am I gay because I dislike sports? Hell if I know. I just know I don't like the shit.

Does the fact that I like Motorhead but have relatively little use for Madonna make me straight? lol

Fair enough. lol I see where you're coming from. nod And I totally agree with you - so much is foisted on kids because they're 'supposed' to like it. confused

Yes, in the same way some people think all boys like blue, play with worms, enjoy sports and all girls prefer pink, like dressmaking and hopscotch, I'm sure there are lots of gay men who think like this as soon as they come out. nod "I am gay! Where's my Celine Dion album??". lol

Actually, I think it's only half the picture.

Gays as we know excel at things like blowjobs and fashion, but there is actually little or no correlation between those things and whether they'll be athletic.

One only needs to go to a gay nightclub to see that (per capita), the gay community is in far better shape than the straight one, at least when it comes to looks.

I think it has ALOT to do with the fact that in America, they are extremely alienated. They're the last to be picked in team sports, they often get picked on for being "wierd", and thus they are taught relatively early not trust teams of men.

However, for individual sports (running, triathalons, etc.), you will see them in larger numbers.

I'm not sure about lesbians, but I would imagine that being that all our PE teachers were power dykes might have given them more of a support structure.

This isn't exclusive to gays though. Many straights who don't get picked in PE, or were harassed for being wierd or nerdy, end up hating sports.

I won't say I hate sports, as I love hockey games, but I just don't get why people waste time keeping up with sports teams scores, etc. It's a pointless waste of time unless it's your team your paying attention to. One of my neighbors has to know who beat who, and this applies to all sports (baseball, football, hockey, etc.) and to me its a huge waste of time.

Come on now. Nothing is queerer than bucking convention. If you REALLY want me to embrace all that gay shit, the proper manipulative psychology is to tell me it's wrong and unnatural. Duh. rolleyes

I don't really hate sports.
I just find them and the people that worship them boring. I don't see the entertainment value at all. And it's always some fucking weirdo with a dallas penguins or and new jersey seahawks or some shit fucking jersey on telling me how morgan freeman tried to get that lay up in the ninth inning before he could make a goal, but tim conway tripped him with his stick or some shit LIKE I care when I couldn't give any less than -%3,000 of a damn about whatever they're talking about. So I stand there and listen and nod my head like i'm paying attention, and then I say "I don't follow sports. I find them boring." And they look at me like I just said the most blasphemous thing ever.
Come to think of it, I do hate sports. Then again, I do have an attention span the length of a match and can't focus my attention on anything that doesn't have monsters, explosions, or exploding monsters.
Sports suck.

my mom tried ONCE to force me into joining the basketball team in 5th grade. i don't know what she was thinking. i remember being on the edge of tears as i put my name on the tryout sheet. i didn't even go to the tryouts, and i think my mom threw a mental fit about it one night then we never talked about it again. and so went her dreams of having a butch jock son. lol

I don't think you can make an all exclusive statement about any group of people.
Not all white men can't jump
Not all white men can't dance
Not all people of color are not able to swim
Not all asian people are good students
Not all "gay people" as you put it are sports phobic.
