Wesley Snipes Indicted For Tax Fraud

POSTED: 11:57 a.m. EDT, October 17, 2006

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Movie actor Wesley Snipes was indicted Tuesday on eight counts of tax fraud accusing him of bilking $12 million from the government in false refund claims.

Snipes, 44, also failed to file tax returns for six years, according to an indictment unsealed in Tampa, Florida.

Federal prosecutors said Snipes fraudulently claimed the refunds in 1996 and 1997. It also charged him with failure to file returns between 1999 and 2004.

According to the indictment, Snipes had his taxes prepared by accountants with a history of filing false returns to reap payments for their clients.

As part of the deal, the indictment alleges, the firm, American Rights Litigators, would receive 20 percent of refunds from clients.

Snipes faces a maximum of 16 years in prison.

Snipes has appeared in dozens of movies, including "White Men Can't Jump," "Jungle Fever" and the "Blade" series of action films.

i don't hate him. His career tanked after the vampire movie, but I don't hate him. I just don't like people who don't pay their taxes, especially actors and actresses.

He said that the reason he was not with a black woman is because no man wants to come home to an argument and wants to have a meal ready. If I find the article, I'll give the exact quote.

From USA Weekend Magazine:

When it's suggested that his performances are stronger opposite black actors than white, a curious moment arises. He laughs and disses black actors. "[A] lot of the scripts I've been in with other non-white actors haven't been all that great. [A] lot of non-white actors ain't all that great," he says. Then Snipes tries to cover his tracks. He says that "there are a lot of good actors coming out of both cultures."

This is not the first time Snipes has put his foot in his mouth when discussing race in public. He once implied that he was no longer interested in dating black women because they were too much work. He is currently is involved with Korean painter Nikki Park, the mother of his two youngest children.

This is the article I read:

He doesn't want to come home to someone who's going to be mean and aggravating and unkind and who is going to be `please me, please me.' He doesn't want to come home to that. He doesn't want to come home to have a fight with someone who is supposed to be his helpmate. So it's very natural that he's going to turn to some place that's more compassionate.... You've worked hard and you deserve to come home to comforting. And usually a man who has that will appreciate it. Because I've never known one cat, all those cats I've hung out with and still hang out with, who found something that they really, really like and didn't go back to it. They all go back. It's very simple."

When asked for clarification, Snipes emphasizes that he is not saying that a Black woman can not be that type of woman a man wants to come home to. "Not at all," he declares. "Absolutely not. That's the point. I want to come home and I don't want to argue. I want to be pleasing, but if I ask you to get me a glass of water, you're going to say, `Them days is over.' please. Come on," Wesley says. "A man likes that. I don't know why. It's been that way forever. It makes him proud, you know, like when the guys come over and your lady comes out with a tray of food and says `I made this up for you.' And the guys are like, `Oh man, you've got a great women.' And the man says, `Yeah, I do.' A man will appreciate it when you're kind and when you're nice.

"For successful women, it's hard," he continues, obviously quite comfortable and articulate on the subject of relationships. "The competition is fierce. And if he's a man of success and power who happens to be handsome, of course you're not the only one who thinks he's handsome. But you don't have to punish him because of that once you get with him. Don't punish him because somebody else likes him."

wow. I would say he's one of the better actors who happen to be black. I think the black actors whom we see the most are awesome actors. A few:

Derek Luke
Denzel
Wesley
Joe Morton
Laurence Fishburne
Samuel L. Jackson
Terence Howard
Delroy Lindo
Forest Whitaker
Courtney B. Vance
Harry Lennix
Jamie Foxx
Omar Epps

And, that's not even going into actresses... So, explain to me, please, your position.

I have zero sympathy for folks that cheat the government and/or don't pay their taxes.
