They will likely be swept. They are a joke and backed into the play-offs while nearly choking to death. To give up a 11 game lead in a month and half is pathetic. To not be able to even beat the Royals to preserve the division is even more pathetic.

Their offense just disappeared dude, if they had some, then I wouldn't be so confident. But you have to score SOME runs to compete.

I cant say much being a Cardinal fan. We are sure as hell limping into the playoffs. O well, maybe Larussa can pull something out of his ass.

to be honest, no one scRes me. I mean, of course theres a reason why we play the games, but.....detroit, twins and oakland don't scare me in the least. only the mets give me some doubt...but now that pedro is done, all of a sudden even they aren't that scary anymore. I'd love to hear another year of everyone bellyaching about the payroll, this and that, us yankee fans will just smile and say '27 bitches'

That payroll talk is a bunch of you-know-what! The Yankees are playing buy the rules. Don't hate on George because he wants to win and spends loot to do it. Some of these owners pocket the money and don't give a f--- about their team or the fans. Sometimes it's not about spending a lot of money, but spending it wisely. If the Lords of Baseball don't like it, they should stop whining like b!tches and do what the football owners did. But the owners and players would never go for that.

You better think about that one again. If the Yankees have to play the Oakland A's (which they will assuming the Yankees even make it past Detroit...a big IF), you are in for one hell of a fight!

ahhhh, I of course see your point as you stick up for your team, but seeing baseball as a numbers game, what's the yanks/a's record for say, the last five seasons?

even better, how's that post season record against the bronx looking for you?

again, anything can happen, but I actually think the yanks CRUISE through the AL, the lineup is that real people...especially in a seven game series with homefield in NY.

Talk about hater (go look in the mirror buddy).

I thought we were taking about THIS year (these A's only have two players on the team this year that were on the last team that played the Yankees in the playoffs and any record in previous years is totally irrelevant to THIS year).

And didn't the A's go back to NY this year and sweep the Yankees in NY in June nod???? And didn't the A's win the season series this year 6 - 3 nod????? Don't count my boys out.

You say that no team scares you and the Yankees are going to cruise through the AL....well the Yankees pitching and defense is too week this year to do that.

Pitching and defense is what wins in the playoffs and World Series, so go ahead and rely on Randy Johnson and his poor aching back and A-Rod and his supurb (NOT) defense.

yanks hit their stride in july and haven't looked back since, so hang your hat on that silly sweep.

johnsons numbers are more than decent in his last 12-15 starts, not dominate by any stretch, but certainly not dismal. yeah, pitching and d do win, but do you really think the yanks are that pathetic in those departments? hah! you don't need to lead the league in stats to win, trust that. throw harden 5 times and then maybe I worry. your right side of the infield spreading hitting doesn't worry me. not talking mean spirited, mind you hug

like offense doesn't factor in? 1 through nine in a seven game series, sorry.....I don't see it happening. I of course have been wrong in the past, so I won't talk MAJOR shit, but I see it being fairly easy, unless the starters get rocked, then it changes.

and cmon man, like the AL west is a TOUGH division? cmon now, its the weakest in the league aside from the NL west rolleyes

Let's look at some of those defensive numbers this year....

Team ERA:
A's 4.21 (7th best in the league)
Stankees 4.41 (only 12th)

Team Fielding %:
A's .986 (4th best)
Yankees .983 (17th)

Total Errors:
A's 84
Yankees 104

Double Plays Turned:
A's 173
Yanks 145

The A's hit their stride in July as well (when they started getting healthy). Many of the offensive statistics for the A's are skewed by their early struggles, but since July, their batting avverage and offensive production has been in the top half of the league.

The A's just find ways to win games.

As for the AL west being weakest division besides the NL West...what about the NL Central???? And the Yankees only won 4 more games than the A's and the AL West second place team Anaheim won more games (89) than either Toronto (87 wins 2nd place) or Boston (86 3rd).

And the A's this year have a 29 - 15 record against AL East Teams while the Yankees only have a 18 - 17 record against the (very weak in your words) AL West.

I may just be blowing smoke out of my ass but here is my bold prediction:

The winner of the Oakland - Minnesota series is going to win the World Series. I truly believe that those are the best two teams in Baseball right now and are both built (defense/pitching) for Playoff/World Series play.

Of course if the Yankees beat either one of these teams...this post will quickly disappear... lol

During that June sweep the Yankees did not have Matsui, Sheffield and Abreu in the lineup. That's 300 RBIs missing there.

ESPN can't get Johan Santana's dick out of their mouths long enough to eat lunch. don't get me wrong, he's the real deal for sure, but the way they jock him is a joke.
