me either, I wonder what happens when you get older/age? My friend is an eye dr. he doesn't do lasic himself (he mostly does cosmetic stuff), but he said he would recommend it because the risks are too great. Things do go wrong. My Legacy

Are they rigid gas permeable (i.e., hard) or soft lenses? I found that hard lenses were easier to put in, as they're smaller in diameter and don't change shape. I'd pull down my lower eyelid, put the lens in the "pocket" I just created, and slowly let my lower eyelid go back up. Voilà. Ten years after pretty much giving up on the hard contacts (I found them uncomfortable), I recently started wearing soft lenses, since there are now "toric" soft contacts that can correct my astigmatism. They're much more difficult to put in, due to a larger diameter, their tendency not to keep their shape, and my relatively small eyes. But it's getting easier with practice. Still, I really like the soft lenses. Once they're in, I can barely feel them. And unlike the hard lenses, which would sometimes move off-center, the soft ones stay where they should. Maybe this has changed now that soft torics are available, but when I first got contacts in 1994, my eye doc told me the ratio of contacts to glasses wearers (1:4) had been staying the same for quite some time. He said that for every person who starts wearing contacts, another person decides they're not worth the hassle and goes back to glasses. SpisaRibb said: there sometimes, usually an up and down position in which they set on your eye. Like a top and a bottom. And if they are in, NOT inside out but in the wrong up and down position you vision will be blurry. Usually if you look closely there will be two small lines on either side. this indicates the 'sides' of the contacts. hope this helps!
The torics that I wear (Bausch & Lomb SofLens 66 Toric) are designed so that they automatically rotate to the right position and stay there. It's pretty simple: the bottom is slighly heavier than the top, and after I insert them, they orient themselves properly after I blink a few times. Hard lenses will sometimes do that, especially if they dry out. They're also easier to remove when you want them out: you just pull the outer corner of your eye and blink. OTOH, I've found that the soft lenses do a very good job of staying in. When I want to take them out, I have to touch my eyeball, pinch the lens, and pull it out. (It's not as bad as it sounds.) Everyone should go the way of contact lenses. The glasses look is out. There are not that hard to handle.

Well, you could give hard lenses a try. They are easier to put in, and they tend to do a slightly better job of correcting your vision. And while many people find them uncomfortable, some people actually find the hard lenses to be more comfortable, at least after they get used to them. Actually my glasses make me look nerd sexy, but I still wear my contacts to...so the glasses look is not out....obviously your sense of style is out dated. Yo the 80's called they want your whole wardrobe back.

Bad idea those damn things will make her want to scratch her eyeballs out the first time she wears them. You of all people should know this.

Ex-Moderator | I just spent 20 minutes tryng to put in a pair of theatrical contact lenses I ordered for halloween. I've got 20/20 vision and I've never worn them before. I can't even get one in. I don't think my eye is big enough. Or I can't get it open wide enough. Or something. harrumph. They were expensive too. |

You just have to practice and be patien. I just don't have that kind of time in the mornings.
