i'm going to one of those evangelical HELL HOUSE things tonight... well, sort of.

it's a theatre company staging a hell house word for word from the kit that they sell (which even comes with a recipe for 'aborted fetus prop' made from meat), but not actually trying to convert you.

should be funny as hell.

has anyone been to one of the real ones where they are trying to convert you?

i've heard of those...never been to one, though. it'd be fun to go, at least for the high giggle factor.

When I worked at the newspaper a church down the street from us used to have those every year. It scared the hell out of me!

it's an actual off-broadway "show" by professionals, so pics are gonna be a no-no. actors equity thing.

I've read of the evangelical Hell Houses. They sound exceedingly bizarre.

Have a good time. biggrin

it was frikkin AWESOME!

the people in our group were mostly mortified by the techniques employed by the real evangelical versions, and were disturbed. ryan and i and another few people couldn't help but laugh at the insanity of it and the bad writing. (the script is word for word from a real hell house script)

i think my favorite was the abortion scene, which in the second half they take you into a big pink tent kind of thing made up like the inside of a womb, and there is a woman dressed up like a fetus sitting in the middle and this giant pair of forceps comes in and aborts her, pulling her out of the room and into hell.

just awesome. we are going back next week

having seen the one last night, which is fairly straight-forward in it's presentation, sticking to the script, and not playing it for laughs, just not trying to convert you at the end, i really want to go to a real one just to see.

i think it would incredibly interesting and disturbing. i have seen the documentary "hell house" where they followed one from beginning to end, and it was terrifying the way they are brain-washing people in really shady and decietful ways.

I am not easily swayed by others opinions ... for those that are

these places could seem very frightening indeed

I just think how it again proves that many religions use deep seeded fears to try to show you that you need to join them

which to me is quite odd really ... who would want to join any group based on fear ?
