But how cutting-edge was it? At its core, was it not just another piece of entertainment that suggested that "bad boys" can be tamed, validated the idea that a woman's happiness is dependent upon a man, and implied that it's psychologically sound to obsess about somebody who's "just not that into you"?

nod

Just like on the Sopranos.

I know plenty of women who think like that....and they weren't fans or viewers of the show...the idea of a tameable bad boy who is the keystone of a woman's happiness, regardless of whether he likes u or not is one that has been around a lot longer than TV....as well as the belief that if you're persistent enough u can change a person....bad boys become model husbands if you try hard enough right? hmmm

I think the only cutting edge character was Samantha, the predatory female who toyed with men the way some men do with women. She wasn't out to reform anyone but just get her kicks wherever and whenever she felt like it. The only person she pleased was herself.

Slow ur roll Tito....I meant cutting edge in comparison to what passes for TV these days....not socially speaking....I agree that Sam was the shit as a woman who got her kicks because thats what she liked and damn the torpedoes....but even she went through a period where they wrote her character like the stereotypical woman who pines for a man to make her whole....thankfully it didn't last long....

Funny show, but fucked-up message (it's somehow romantic to pine after someone who treats you like shit 'cause - don't worry - they'll eventually come to their senses and you'll live happily ever after rolleyes).

Show was ostensibly about "modern" women, but - in the end - it was just another fairy tale, no?

thats why i didn't like when she ended up with mr.big

I have like 2 DVDs - IN TOTAL!! I only just got a DVD player this summer - and that was because it was a gift! lol All I have is old VHS, that I recorded off the tv. That said, I have quite a lot of random tv shows I can watch! I should just bite the bullet and throw them out. confused

I've just never been one for spending money on videos or dvds...I'm still kinda not...

when she whipped that wig off her head and stood proud was probably the best moment of the entire series.

like renting movies, but no store. they mail the dvd to you. when you are done with it, you mail it back, and they send you the next one on your list.

hmmm Ah ok...I dunno, I don't think I could be that organised...I don't really watch movies either, I just like having some to hand in case Im really bored and I wanna watch them. Which is rare. Or if there's nothing on TV I'll put on a video/dvd of one of my fave shows for a while.

Proabably not for me confused
