and I really hate that such a cutting edge show ended on such a predictable, sappy note...

But how cutting-edge was it? At its core, was it not just another piece of entertainment that suggested that "bad boys" can be tamed, validated the idea that a woman's happiness is dependent upon a man, and implied that it's psychologically sound to obsess about somebody who's "just not that into you"?

cutting edge in the sense that when it came out, there was nothing like it on TV.....granted it helped that it was an HBO series, so the lines could be crossed....to me, what made it great was the concept....the idea that relationships couldn't be examined, explained and solved in the standard 30 minute sitcom episode....that love/lust ebbs and flows and are intricate, intertwined elements of a relationship...and that women could be the aggressors in relationships....think about it....on regular TV and in most movies, you either lust or love someone...but never both...and how often did you see women as the "predators"....Samantha fed on men for sex and the only place you saw that was on sitcoms where they played up every cheap stereotype of a "harlot" or on the soaps.....and I'm not going there....

I know its just a show....and its nitpicking....but they could have done so much more than the typical girl gets boy ending....
