The last hardcore/punk show at CBGB's is tonight

Bad Brains is the headliner.

The historic club shuts its doors on this sunday, October 15.

i'm sad it's closing, but ya know what, it's time for CBs to close its doors. sure, it was the starting point for a lot of legendary bands back in the day, but that day's gone. i mean, if CBs weren't closing, we wouldn't be reading stories about bad brains and patti smith playing there right now. maybe this will give rise to some new music hotspot in new york, where the next wave of big fun bands will be discovered.

I understand Patti will be closin' the joint down? Wish I had tape of Springsteen's guest appearances with her there in the '70s. sigh

sigh This has been a long time coming. All good things end. There are some bars and clubs around where musicians play for othr musicians, you just have to know where they are.

It's such a small place though, you could walk right up on the stage and be standing where Blondie and The Ramones once stood.

Sad to see it go, but from the articles I've read, the owner was making a hefty chunk of change just off the merchandise available on his site alone, that he could have easily paid the back due taxes.

I don't get why he wants to take the whole thing to Vegas, vegas has nothing to do with the place.

Have you seen the photo Annie Leibowitz took of her for the "American Music" book? It was incredible. I saw the exhibit a few weekends ago and they gave you a little audio thing recorded by Annie so you could hear her talk about each photo. When she took the one of Patti she was still mourning the death of her hubby Fred "Sonic" Smith (hardcore Detroiter and member of the MC-5) and was in the livingroom of their Detroit home. She had moved the bed into the livingroom and was sleeping in there because she couldn't bear to sleep in hers and Fred's room. cry It was an incredible story and a beautiful photo.
