Where did the phrase "co-sign" originate?

I know that it's short for "co-signature," but where did this originate? I always associated it with OKP, 'cause that's where I first saw it used, but surely that can't be it's original place of origin...can it? hmmm

Why do I wonder about stuff like this? sigh
