I just love chinchilla! A few years ago Drew and I were Xmas shopping in Atlanta and a store had 'chinchilla' bombers for $6000... it wasn't chinchilla, but a rabbit. That same day we saw a beautiful real chinchilla coat at Neimans for $190,000.

It's not for me.

And I find it makes people look like tubby, furry blobs. It's not a flattering look at all.

Very luxurious, but totally unecessary and driven by nothing but greed and vanity these days. I could excuse yesteryear, because people needed those garments. But not today.

I fully admit my hypocrisy, though: I do occassionally buy leather goods. (I'm trying to ween myself.)

i think if people knew more about the conditions on fur farms, and the wild trapping methods, people would reconsider wearing fur.

it has been very interesting going through all my grandparents things
they were married in 1922 so yes, they used fur out of pure necessity
it was the difference between freezing and not

there are full buffalo and beaver coats and lots of coyote pieces... neck shawls that you added not for looks but to keep you warm, fur muffs for the womens hands and home made elbow high mitts for the men

the hood on my black winter jacket is trimmed with fur. it's amazing how just such a tiny strip can make such a huge difference around your face when the wind is blasting on a cold winters day.

i don't ever envision myself wearing a full fur coat but there still are places and situations where fur is useful. just wearing it for the sake of saying look at me, i have more money than sense... is a whole different story.

I was never too keen on them,
but, as a crack-ho street-pimp,
I had to wear big fur coats ( & sometimes hats )for years in order to stay in business. For some reason, the general consumer always believed that unless one wore the stereotypical uniform for this job, it was a reflection on the quality of the product. Or as we used to say in the business "Fur coats sell fur pies".

Thank God that after Terrence D. Howard's performance on "Hustle & Flow",
that public image has changed.
Now every day is a "casual Friday" for me.

Interesting. I confess that I love the look of fur -- and I really had to fight the temptation of buying a vintage men's buffalo coat for awhile. There's something so subtly cool about them: chunky, warm, rare, almost primal. It's just I'd have felt so guilty when I have scores of other options nowadays.

The first coverings that mankind learned to use, and some might say saved mankind from extinction was fur.

Very true however we have no real need for Animal Fur clothing now, because there are so many synthetic products available.

So really you cannot compare necessity to Vanity.....because that is all Animal Fur clothing comes down to now.

I don't ware fur. I'm far to fat and warm blooded. However that's not true what you say. It has Nothing to do with Vanity from my perspective. I like cotton t-shirts. and althought there are a wide varity of synthetic products available, they are not cotten t-shirts.

There's nothing that can match the warmth and breadablitly of fur.

As you say ..... Thats your perspective.....Doesn't make me wrong or right wink

I am curious though.....Would people wear a Coat made of Old English Sheepdog? Or is that too cute..... razz

Cotton comes from a Plant by the way....I wear cotton shirts too... lol

(EDITED ADD IN - I didn't say you wore fur confused )

Isel

Yeah... I don't buy real fur at all.

But... I'm not a vegetarian and buy leather products.

I tried becoming a vegetarian--just couldn't do it. I even got sick from trying because I just didn't take in enough protein from other sources.

A great book that I read sort of relating to this is When Elephants Weep: the Emotional Side of Animals.

I'd wear a coat made of Old English Sheepdog if I were in the artic.
Fur comes from the Planet just as cotton does.
I'm not saying there's something right about choosing to wear fur. I'm just saying there's nothing wrong with it.

My wife once had a friend, whom she put up with alot of bullshit from and many many things of the such. My wife was wonderful to this person, what a friend should truly be. That person broke off the friendship with my wife because my wife went though a vintage fur stage. That's just a stupid person right there.

I believe people want to find some cause to get behind that they can feel something is "wrong" so they won't have to face the facts that the "wrong" is within them and not outside them.

That's an illusion of doing something right so you can avoid what's actually right to do.
