I try not to judge too much on here but I do think a lot about what we are doing to this planet and how it will be for future generations. To me, in my honest opinion, SUVs are mostly about ego. Well, for the record, I love the raging bitch in you too.

consumer reports has the rav4 at the top of the list for fuel efficency... how did you find your 2001 to be on gas? that is about the year of used model i am looking at. and for the record, i want one because cars here bottom out in the snow. getting stuck when you are a single woman is no fun 
and i want cargo space for camping gear and my bike i want small, as fuel efficent as i can afford, and something that can do safe winter highway driving.  She couldn't stop crying 'cause she knew he was gone to stay | |

I drive a Corolla (and love it....it gets great gas mileage ), but I read where the Rav-4 actually gets better gas mileage than the Corolla. A lot of those smaller SUVs shouldn't be as much as of problem as any mid-size sedan.

The RAV4 2001 that I used to drive was a four-cylinder, 2-wheel drive. It is more fuel efficient than a 6-cylinder 2005 Avalon (my dad lent me his Avalon while my RAV was in the repair shop). If Consumer Reports is talking about the 2006 model, the fuel efficiency may have improved. I would say that its cargo space isn't big enough for camping. I say this based on observation. I have never gone camping. Driving safety is pretty good for an SUV. | |

One of the things that discourages me from playing my fav CDs in my Huyndai Sonata is that it heats up my CDs as if I had put them over a cooking stove. Well....my Corolla is a '94. I don't even have CD player in mine...and the stereo system isn't the world's greatest. The MPG is still good, and it drives pretty smooth though. Now I drive a boring Dodge Caravan. I think for families they still make sense.And for people that live in places with hilly or rough terrain. I think of my sister; she's got two babies, a dog, and she and her hubby are avid mountain bikers. It's like she chose form to follow function and I see it as a practical choice. But what I don't get, for example, are single drivers who live in flat assed Florida, and use the biggest SUVs they can find to go cruising down all the beach boulevards at 5 miles an hour on a Saturday night  | |
