All I know is that I go in with lots of money and leave with none. I never see where it goes. I therefored deduced many years ago that these women are the mythical sirens of odysseus' age.
Therefore they have my utmost respect.

when i was in college, some of my best roommates were strippers. they always had money to pay the rent and the bills, and they never mooched my food.

each to thier own... personally I've always admired the way they can dance and move I think its awesome (but I would not choose to do that myself for a living having said that)
I have a friend who was a prostitute for a long while... now THAT is something that's a whole other story just wanted to slip that in because there is a stigma out there that stripping is like prostitution and it's nothing like it

They deal with prostitution and are rather good at destroying the stigma. As is Six Feet Under season 2. You might want to read some Terese Raquin by Zola too - it's about addiction to adultery. As is Six Feet Under season 2. help! i've been stigmatatized! As for the question, I have only ever known a male stripper and prostitute (since that was brought up). I wouldn't do it, but mainly cause no one in their right mind would pay me to take my clothes off. I think if I had the body for it, I'd be tempted, but ultimately probably wouldn't do it. |

There are some that do it because they earn biggie bux. They do it to pay for the university tuition, or if they are single parents. Then there are some that are smuggled in from Russia or Thailand who are slaves to pay off a debt. Ohh purple joy oh purple bliss oh purple rapture! i think if someone's able to hold a stripper job and keep a strong head on their shoulders, i say good for them. like i said earlier, i've had roommates who stripped to get through college, and hey - if it gets you that degree and you've got the nerves and the body to do it, i say go get 'em.
i've also known some people who started out stripping, then moved on to a bit of escort work, then somehow landed in some big nasty messy life full of drugs and shady people and various unpleasantries that simply became commonplace. that shit obviously ain't cool. as a job that can make someone a lot of money, i have all the respect in the world for anyone who strips and can hold together a healthy life outside of the titty bar. from what i've seen, it's really difficult not to slip into all the insanity that comes with the "culture" of it.

stripping has got to be the lamest job in the world. i KNOW there's a market for it, but for the girls who claim they do it to pay for school--pfffbt!
get a damn job at walmart, walgreens, or the mcdonalds--you know something where you actually get an w-2 form at the end of the year. not to mention, if you wan the big $$$, you better be sliding down the flesh poles in the back room after you slide down the silver one in the main room.

I could never do it but I say to each their own. Every stripper I've ever known was crazy or had severe issues. Just sayin.

Yeah, me too. Major Daddy issues or drugs. Never met one myself that had their head on straight.

I've known a few in my time and all of them have been high-school dropouts with very low self esteem. I know that many strippers do get a university degree, but the ones I've known did not.
I feel sorry for any woman that has to strip for a living. I think it's degrading work and I believe that many are unhappy doing it. Sure, they make a bundle of money, but we all know, money doesn't matter in the big scheme of things.
