PUBLIC SCHOOLS UNFORTUNATELY ARE GOING TO NEED PERMANENT SECURITY !

I'm just coming home and read in the newspaper about another and third shooting within one week rose
SOMETHING quickly has to happen to prevent another of these already and too many passed tragedies at public schools .

you could say that for any school, really. shrug my high school was private and liked to think that it was oh-so-very safe and secure, but anyone could have easily come on campus and shot up a classroom.

True , it can happen everywhere so that's another problem which is difficult to control .
Something snapped inside those persons who started to shoot out of nowhere . Social control from professional help , who could have noticed a sign of personal disorder which that person suffers from , is mostly too late .
It might be a complicated situation to forsee such a development in a person , so that action can be taken before it escalates .

No school is secure even with an officer on campus. The school within my vicinity had to be placed on lockdown for approximately 30 minutes prior to school's dismissal because of a domestic dispute that turned violent involving guns on the campus. It was one scary situation. Fortunately those involved in the dispute were appreheneded and no one was hurt, but just the thought was enough to make everyone think about how close to home danger really was for the kids.

You rarely see Colombine-type sh!t in inner-city schools. Why, I have no idea. It's surprising, because inner-city school kids who are different get teased too. I was called fa---t & sellout for getting good grades, but I never thought about grabbing my dad's .38 and taking revenge on those idiots.

Usually when sh!t happens, it's between individuals(one kid disses another, so he'll get his revenge on that one student). Or one crew will go after another crew for some dumb-a$$ ghetto sh!t.

Actually, this kind of stuff does happen in inner-city schools. It just doesn't get much attention. The school situation I was referring to earlier happened at an inner-city school. And there are other inner-city schools that I know of -- including the one that I mentioned -- that have had countless problems with students bringing guns and other weapons to school.

Inner-city or not, no school is immune to this type of danger. It's just sad that not all schools get the same kind of attention in these matters.

The Public Middle School that i teach at has 4 security guards, an SRO ( a police officer who has an office on campus) and a Perole officer. We also do random locker searches on an almost daily basis, have dope sniffing dogs once every few months, and have a metal detector check once a mont. Of course I work in the ghetto, but my school is pretty safe as far as security goes

That's a great routine Karma ... hope this can be done on more schools in the future .
Is there also some kinda social control at your school , in case with bullied students or personal vendettas between groups or persons ?

Has anyone ever seen the movie "Elephant" ? ... there , you see a situation of 2 guys taking action in a tragedy .
Here you get some inside story what goes around in someones' mind , eventually evolving in senseless violence ,

The city I work in has the second highest murder per capita rate in California. (It is even more violent then compton!) The reason why we have so much security is because people have/and will sell drugs on campus, There was a suicide on campus 4 years ago (before I got there fortunately) My campus is pretty much the buffer zone between two ghetto cities (and rival gangs) Thats why we have the security. Plus kids are already sexin it up big at this age (which is crazy) I had a pregnant 13 year old last year and got some kids suspended for pulling a train on a girl last year also (in the boys bathroom next to my classroom) On the other hand because the kids I work with have the odds against them, this is what makes me work so hard and what makes me want to continue working there. I am extremely involved in the school, and take pride in the fact that I can be a good example to these kids and encourage them to get out and come back and help make the community better.

I've heard of kids bringing guns to school in the inner city but never of some mass murder type of thing.

I do feel your points though.

Sad. So very sad. sad

Maybe I'm living in a dreamworld or something but it's just terrible that kids today can't go to school without having to have security guards at the gate, sniffer dogs, etc.. Obviously I understand that it's necessary but what kind of world are we living in?? disbelief

My heart goes out to all the families affected by this.

It's not a dreamworld, its Britain. And relatively rural Britain too, as opposed to the likes of London, Manchester etc. I think its awful that this sort of thing happens, even that kids have access to these weapons. I agree - what kind of world are we living in? sad

the really sad thing, is that the more "security" there is in schools,
the more it tempts these assholes to do these inhumane and unthinkable acts of violence.
i wish i had the answer. its really upsetting, the world we live in.

We need to get rid of the so-called vampires of the world and religious type of nuts AND we need much better security at all schools.

My hat goes off to you, Karmatornado, or anyone, who teaches in a public school! A news report once stated that working in a public middle school is one of the most dangerous jobs in America. It's not hard to believe.

no shit
it sounds more dangerous than working at the corner store and getting robbed at gun point every couple of months.
