When coffee tastes like meat... ...it's time to make a fresh pot. This Public Service Announcement has been brought to you by Anx's Committee for Responsible Caffeine Consumption. Thank you, that is all. (And yes, this is my sad attempt to get a coffee thread going, if for no other reason than just to spite Muse. )

i always want to make the "ultimate coffee" ... and i never can ...
i am convinced its like alot of restaurant food --- they have alil trick or something ... that makes it taste better than anything u can make at home ... i heard that coffee is only "fresh " for like 15 minutes??? i also heard that you should NOT store coffee in the refrig or freezer ??? any other secrets of good coffee???

I'm gonna be honest with all of you. My whole family and I love coffee, and we failed to find a decent coffee in Miami and New York - even the coffee in the Four Seasons hotel SUCKED.
America doesn't make good coffee. Italy does.

my coffee at work tastes like ass pretty much.
I'm close to 2 really good independent coffee houses. But I just can't justify dropping change on coffee every day when I can drink asscoffee for free... speaking of...I'd best go get a cup.

<-- coffee geek
Stumptown has a great brewing guide. In short, the keys to good coffee are: - buy good whole beans weekly - don't grind them until you're ready to use them - use a proper amount of coffee for the brewing method (most people don't use enough) - consume it right after brewing; the good flavors in coffee come from very volatile oils that start evaporating as soon as the coffee is brewed. After 10 or 15 minutes, you have a completely different, and way less yummy, cup. If it has been sitting around for 30 minutes or more, for gawd's sake, throw it away. edit [Edited 10/4/06 6:53am] oh noes, prince is gonna soo me!!1!
