85-Year-Old Pedestrian Struck, Killed By 85-Year-Old Driver Driver Said He Never Saw Victim
POSTED: 1:05 pm CDT October 2, 2006 UPDATED: 1:16 pm CDT October 2, 2006 CHICAGO -- An 85-year-old pedestrian died after she was struck while crossing a south suburban street Sunday. Stella Stepien was crossing the 5400 block of 127th Street in Alsip when she was struck by a westbound vehicle, according to a release from Alsip police. The crash occurred about 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Alsip police Lt. James McGreal said. The driver, identified as Yves Delong, 85, of Orland Park, and witnesses told police they never saw Stepien until impact, McGreal said. Stepien was transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she later died from her injuries, the release said. Stepian, of 7949 Menard Ave. in Burbank, was pronounced dead at 9:19 p.m. at Christ Medical Center, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. Delong has not been cited in the incident, the release said. "Alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in this accident but we continue to investigate," McGreal added. wow | |
