My Pick for the best is Grease!

News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so.

There was a time where there wasn't anything else on our TV. My dad (not gay either) must have watched this over 50 times over about a 6-month period. We all kind of became obsessed with it. Now that I think about it, I quote this movie all the time...

"This where ya wawsh claowz?!"

And OMG her "polite conversation" at the race "does me in" every time. falloff

That movie is perfect.

only one musical version. the older non-musical movie (with nicholson in a small role) is what the musical was based on

Whoa I didn't even know that. All this time I thought the musical came first. Makes sense though.

That was Jack's debut by the way biggrin

nod

the movie (Jack) was in 1960, became a big cult hit over the years, and then the musical was put off-broadway in 1982, also developed cult following, and then they made the movie in 1986.

Dreamgirls is getting huge oscar buzz, so that should be good, and Hairspray is brilliantly cast, so those are this years contenders.

Singin in the Rain is one of the finest films ever, not just out of musicals, but out of every film in existence.
