Played, I think. I'm sick of people saying 'I dunno' when they fucking do if they just dug a little deeper.

But what if they do know but just don't care?
Some people are just worth digging in deeper for ,
especially if you know that they're are not listening.

I think we're all soloing to the deaf. I don't trust facial gestures. I've faked them and so have you.

Ignorant people make it harder on everyone. Oftentimes, they are also dumb.

That's similar to smart people being sooo sure they're right they won't consider anyone else's opinion anymore.

Yeah, well, that's always dumb.

Honest to gawd, I think that's more of a dumb-person thing than a smart-person thing. Most smart people didn't get that way by ignoring the input of others. You can't learn if you think you already know.

Or, I should say, most knowledgable people. I guess the people you're really talking about are the people who have the raw intelligence but don't use it well. Those people probably don't actually know much.

Many "knowledgeable" people seem to learn only to a certain extent, and believe that's the ultimate truth forever. What's intelligent when you're 15 isn't always still intelligent when you're 30.

The difference between "smart" and "knowledgeable" is huge. Humor (as mentioned by irresistiblebitch) is a good indicator of that raw stuff you're talking about. Humor often means you're thinking quickly & creatively.

I'm just saying I find it hard to tell the difference as to when people are hearing me or listening to me. Sometimes I drop in the odd 'I agree with Hitler' or 'Aren't paedophiles unjustly vicimised?' just to observe a slight expansion in their pupils. No-one's listening. I think we're all looking for the one that listens. If everyone listened Mr Mills and Mr Boon would still be cleaning toilets.

Now you've dug in too deep for me.

I'm just saying I find it difficult to measure the air between people hearing me or listening to me. Sometimes I drop in the odd 'I agree with Hitler' or 'Aren't paedophiles unjustly vicimised?' just to observe a slight expansion in their pupils. No-one's listening. We're all somewhat mute. I think we're all, here, still looking for the one that listens. If everyone listened Mr Mills and Mr Boon would still be cleaning toilets.

Sometimes they even think they're listening, but really they're thinking of their next response.

Skill with an argument is another flaw of the "intelligent"

Skill with an argument is another flaw of the "intelligent"

Skill with an argument usually shows more of an inability to actually listen and/or empathize.

And they like to say that debate is good.

The reality is that
99% of all debates are debates just for the sake of debate which is pretty much just intellectually-sounding pointless noise ( & therefore not-so-intelligent).

Debate for the sake of understanding is incredibly rare & requires more alot heart & patience than it does intelligence.

wrong!

just kidding, I totally agree

When people debate, often their emotions get involved, and the sense of competition takes over. While it takes some intelligence to argue effectively, it shows greater intelligence to allow yourself to lose an argument occasionally

Debate in general gets too much credit because of that, though.

Most debate unfortunately seems to be for the sake of winnning (or at least for the sport of it) rather than for true understanding.
