Find out where the vehicle is and have it towed back to the rental company. What if the vehicle gets "totalled" by irresponsible friend? Reduce your liabilities ASAP.

Missed the problem solved part...I'm with the perfume, lipstick thing and thowing him over a clift.

It's weird because this week has turned completely around. Yesterday I went with my best friend to Monterey with her family to scatter her grandparents ashes in the ocean. It was absolutely beautiful. We also went out to eat after at Bubba Gumps. The thing is. I didn't have to pay for anything. She just appreciated that I drove. We stayed Thursday night at a hotel. I didn't have to pay. And she paid for the diner Thursday and lunch Friday. It was an all around great 2 days.

Miguel I'm truly sorry that happened to you.

After watching more that one daytime court show, I know one thing:
If someone can't get something on their own, that's good enough reason not to get it for them.

If someone screws up their own credit to the point they can't buy/lease anything they will have no qualms about screwing yours.

They don't pay creditors, why pay friends?
Friends can't wreak you credit history.
No written agreement = gift.
Never borrow or lend to someone you want to stay friends with.

Miguel, I'm so sorry to hear this has happened. I know he's your ex but... I'm so glad this has sorted itself out.

A very similar thing happened to myself and I know how hard this is to deal with. You lose faith in the very people you love(d) and trust(ed) the most. It can feel humiliating. In my case, I bailed out a friend and ex-housemate who - it turned out - had not been paying his rent. The threat of eviction loomed over us; I panicked, paid his rent and was *promised* the money back. 2 years later and £2500 down, I've yet to see the money.

I got over the money but it's taken me a long time to deal with the other effects. It completely shook me and affected my relationships with other friends. I never wanted to be treated like that again. But I refuse to let him affect me any longer - he can go to hell. And karma is a bitch. He'll get his just desserts, I'm sure.

Just please learn the lesson from this. But don't allow him to let you lose faith in people. You're a special guy - there must be a lot of wonderful people in your life. Sounds like he's just the one bad apple, unfortunately.
