Book of the month: ONLY REVOLUTIONS by Mark Z. Danielewski So, I'm halfway through ONLY REVOLUTIONS by Mark Z. Danielewski and oh boy what a doozy of a ride. Like his previous novel, The House of Leaves, Danielewski is pushing the concepts of the "novel," in new directions. The story of two perpetually sixteen years olds travelling throughout history is told in the perspective of the two main characters Sam and Hailey. Here's the new twist (or gimmick) as suggested by the publisher: It is recommended that you alternate between Hailey and Sam's narrative eight pages at a time. Meaning you read 8 pages of Sam's entry and then flip the book over and read 8 pages of Hailey's narrative. The margins are filled with historical facts printed in a different font. The book is 360 pages long with 36 lines and 360 words per page. The inserts behind the front and back covers are filled with mirror images of data, whose meaning I'm still trying to ascertain. Any other book buffs reading this yet? Istensek? Anxiety? Let's discuss... "...literal people are scary, man literal people scare me out there trying to rid the world of its poetry while getting it wrong fundamentally down at the church of "look, it says right here, see!" - ani difranco

i finally got it in the mail on tuesday!
although i had pre-ordered it and was supposed to get it one day before the official release. damnit i've flicked through it and decided to put it aside for a while since i'm moving house, need to have my tonsils taken out and have an exam beginning next month. plus i had 2 other books to finish. but yes, i've got it and i really really wish i could start it right now. but i also know that if i do i won't be able to put it down cuz danielewski's books are more like interactive games/movies and books all rolled up into one. and i'm a sucker for that, lol. so i will crawl up with it sometime late october, starting on a friday afternoon and read and re-read it all weekend. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps
