missmad

vegan possiblity 4 me

i started a thread a while ago bout becoming very interested in becoming a vegetarian. I ate just veges and no/very little meat/chicken for a while, lots of tea, and geen tea and I felt great!


when i eat meat/chicken etc I find i become tired and when i have my green tea or normal tea and veges etc, eliminating meat, i am somewht more alive and for me, confidence.

ordered the vege starter pack from petaeats.com

who know if i will get it as in im australia?

No worries. Just in my own experience, I have known quite a few people who've tried Veganism and I have often felt like they need an "Out To Lunch" sign hanging from their forehead permanently.

I know what you mean about feeling so lathargic after eating meat. My initial meat-free experience was due to my cholesterol level creeping up. The new energy that I felt was a bonus!

Now I do eat meat from time to time, but not nearly as much as I used to. In fact, only a couple of times a year. My family was/is out of control with the meat-eating!

the difference in energy was a big motivator for me when i first went veggie. i felt like a big weight had been taken out of my body and that i was more nimble and awake, and less weighed-down and slarghy.

one thing you should do while you're figuring out your new diet is to go to a vitamin shop and let them know what you're doing, and have them recommend some good supplements for you. chances are you'll figure out your whole nutrition schedule in good time, but meanwhile, it doesn't hurt to make sure you're getting all the vitamins and minerals you should be taking in every day.

Good for you, but make sure you research your foods well and try not to rely on supplements too much, cus that ain't healthy!

However the reason you feel tired after meat is a perfectly normal reaction, high protein food triggers hormones that make you sleepy, have a siesta and get going again.

supplements, when not mistaken for actual food, can be very beneficial. that's why they're called supplements. they supplement your diet. on the other hand, you probably shouldn't do heroin if you become a vegan. that's not good for you.

Absolutely, but you would be surprised how many people don't get this. However I would say that there are a lot of supplements that contain crap that aren’t proven to be beneficial or are in any way intended to be beneficial also. Best way is to just have a healthy balanced diet, then you don't need to supplement it!

even people with healthy balanced diets have been known to take supplements. do you know something about supplements that i don't? do B12 tablets cause cancer?

I have admit to still being very attached to chicken (with the exception of fried chicken shake)

I think I'mma be a "flexatarian". Just adding chicken on occasion.

giggle In my search for meals that were more veggie, I saw a few sites that talked about having a "flexatarian" lifestyle. smile

What the hell is THAT supposed to mean? I guess eating meat keeps you "sane"? Whatever. Recent vegan here, and so far the diet has worked for me. I found some really good vitamins that i take twice a day, and that's about it. Otherwise i feel great. I'd been a vegetarian for over 12 years, and i've been vegan for a year now. I'm sticking with it. Any questions,let me know.

i've been a vegetarian for 18 years now and i'm mad as a freakin' hatter. i guess i'd go completely over the edge if i gave up cheese.

i wish more people used words like 'flexatarian' or 'vegequarian' or just 'i don't eat a lot of meat but i'm not a vegetarian'. lol

I just think its interesting how the org and the people on it seem to keep shifting the black and white lines we've all created or lived by. If its not sexuality, its diet. I for one am starting to see nothing as black and white, everyone is a bit of everything and never 100% one way hmmm

So, yeah, try it -- gradually, preferably -- and see how you feel. Listen to your body. I feel great on a vegan diet, and some people don't, and you won't know until you try it. If it doesn't go well, consider adding fish/seafood back into your diet -- it's the healthiest and least ethically horrendous animal product.
