The only time I felt icky about a one-night stand is when I woke up alone in a strange hotel room and the "participant" had left £30.00 with a note saying "tHANx!" on the bedside cabinet. I felt like a hooker!

Only a few responses already and this thread is cracking me up. It depends on how honest you want my answer to be but I co-sign stymie, LazarusHeart, Justin and Herman. It depends on the person and their outlook/approach. It suits some people, it doesn't suit others. Some people need it at a particular time of their life, some people will always need it, others will never need it. As long as you act like adults and treat each other with respect, I see no problem with it. But that doesn't mean I encourage or go out looking for it. There are hundreds of differents reasons as to why people do it. Whatever side of the of the fence you fall on, however, you should not have to be judged.

I know! I bumped into him a couple of years after that and he explained that the money was to pay his half towards the hotel room. His note could have been a little more explanatory. We had a series of planned rendezvous over the next few years, but he never gave me his phone number. He'd just phone out of the blue. It was pretty exciting really. I sound like a slut, don't I?

He was called Nadin. He was an Iraqi exile. The first time I met him, I was as drunk as a skunk. My opening line was, "Do you realise that if you took me home, I'd be sleeping with the enemy?". He responded with, "Oh. You're so funny and it's my birthday"... Within an hour we'd gotten into a cab and booked into the hotel.

No. Just a used condom wrapped in tissues, lying on the hotel room floor. He was a bit "messy"...

In the single moments of my life they certainly function as needed attention. And fuck everybody who looks down on them; most dates are one night stands. The one night standers just SCORE. I agree!

I'm all for casual sex, but one nighters, sex with strangers is a not something I am interested in.
I can understand why some people do it, I just don't do it myself.

I can understand why some people do it, I just don't do it myself. But after one night, is it really casual? I would claim that after a certain point, at least one of the 2 parties involved has long term interests. (Insert something clever here)

My first time was a one night stand.
No regrets. It went well, but it would have been great had it gone badly since I'd never see her again.

Yes, it's still casual because it's only sex and nothing more and no, no one is interested in anything long term (and if they are it's on them because the cards were layed on the table at the very beginning).
