'Boondocks' comic strip to end in November "The Boondocks," the edgy comic strip by Aaron McGruder that's currently in reruns, will end in November, Universal Press Syndicate announced Monday. In March, McGruder announced a six-month sabbatical to concentrate on other projects, including the animated "Boondocks" series that runs on the Atlanta-based Cartoon Network and will remain in production. The comic was supposed to resume with new strips in October. But Universal said it could not get a commitment from McGruder on when or if he would return. "Aaron is a brilliant cartoonist who brought a revolutionary voice to the comics pages," Universal President Lee Salem said. "Our hope is that we can work with him in the future, either in newspapers or in different media." "The Boondocks," a strip about two outspoken African-American boys and their grandfather living in a largely white suburb, began in April 1999. At its peak, the comic had about 300 clients, Universal said. The AJC, like many other newspapers, dropped the strip after it switched to reruns. Papers that still carry "Boondocks" reruns can continue them until Nov. 26, Universal said. http://www.accessatlanta....ocks.html# "Nobody makes me bleed my own blood...NOBODY!"

fuck. once it ends there'll be absolutely no reason for me to read the comics section of the paper anymore, as it's turned to shit over the past few years.
at least there's the underground stuff that i can look to from now on after the boondocks ends.

i bet it's more of a hiatus than an actual ending, and in a couple of years he'll be back, maybe with boondocks in comic book form or maybe with a film version of the cartoon. it's been getting too much momentum for him to give up on the characters now.

Hmm. This might sound strange, but I kind of prefer that the strip ends.
I loved the strip from day one. I found the characters and writing to be the freshest, most intelligent stuff around. I found the show funny, but I thought it took the characters and dialogue in places that I didn't always like. Sometimes, I thought the show adopted the buffoonery the strip had lampooned. Though, the show still made great messages (especially the MLK episode). So, given that the characters evolved (in my eyes) to somewhat raunchier creations once they hit TV, I'm not too hurt by the propsect of the strip ending.

I'll miss it. I can't even count the number of times where I or one of my friends have been like, "This situation reminds me of that Boondocks where..." And I def. like the strip better than the show, so for me that's no compensation. Oh well. Nothing lasts forever I suppose.

I know the transition from print to live animation is difficult, however I was expecting something more thought provoking to expand upon the brilliance of the strip.
