Music at work?

I am lucky as we always have music on in the office.

The designer who is usually in charge of what gets played is on holiday so I have taken control and have Prince on shuffle in iTunes lol

Do you have music on at work and if so do you have a say as to what gets played?

yup, i do...and yes, i have a say in what gets played. i bring my ipod to work with me everyday and hook it up to my computer's speakers. it's a helluva lot better than the alternative--listening to the "lite" radio station being piped in through our phones.

Of course!

And I'm pretty much the only one who had say because, well, my office was totally isolated from everything so much so that I could've probably died in there and no one would've known 'till maybe the next morning. lol

I started out listening to mostly Prince stuff, but he got old kinda quick, so I switched to mostly Ramones but they got old too so I started listening to these random electic mixes a friend made for me.

Now I work monitoring the comp lab downstairs and there's a cd player and a radio and I could pretty much play whatever I wanted that wouldn't offend the ppl in there, but I'm ususally too busy doing work to be bothered about that.

No music at work, I'm afraid. I could put on headphones, but it would likely be frowned upon and looked at as standoffish.
I really do work much better with music, though. pout

lol Oh I wish! He's just so obnoxious, he feels he as to take and make every call, no matter how personal to the other end, on speakerphone, as well as hour long conference calls rolleyes

There's always something to listen to! Even if it is boring and occasionally infurating!

Sometimes if i have a really boring task to do having the right kind of music makes it go real quick. We don't do the headphones either just have it going through one of the computers.

My colleagues are starting to get bored of Prince. Oh well I AM THE DJ TODAY!

the reception room is located right next to the big production area on the ground floor here so I always hear the very loud radio they play (quite a bit of Prince, actually, whatever station it is they listen to) and the sound of them talking REAL loud especially one of the managers

I have my own office, so can listen to whatever I want and I can have it quiet when I want.....sometimes I just prefer the quiet.

I have a diverse collection of CDs in my office (and at home), so I go with whatever mood I am in at the time.

For some people I am the boss, so they just have to suck it up.

For my boss, he does not care what I listen to as long as I get the job done.

I am considerate, though, and keep the volume down.

And.....using a speakerphone without shutting your office door is rude and inconsiderate...no two ways about it!

He needs to read a book on cubicle etiquette....especially if he is talking to someone about something personal.

No one on my team that sits in a cubicle uses speakerphone....we ask them to please go into an empty office if they need to have a phone conversation hands-free.....that's fairly simple stuff.

Unless, of course, you are a dolt....and it sounds like he is one.

Put a sticker under his phone that says 'wanker' on it. Then everytime he uses it you can laugh to yourself. I did that with the boys at work. Not a wanker sticker, but I have hidden mac stickers on all the PCs i have here giggle

Stickers can bring hours of fun if used correctly!

i like to listen to music in my head. sometimes it pisses me off when someone at work is playing it loud enough for me to hear it because then i'm trapped in their audio world...

I have speakers connected to my PC here, so I usually just have them on at a low volume level so I don't have to use headphones and no one else around me can hear them. Mondays I usually listen to KFAN, then I alternate between JackFM and Beatles-a-rama for Tuesday through Thursday, then I play my collection of Prince MP3s on Friday. music

Same here, my office is enclosed enough that I can turn on my desktop speakers and not really disturb anyone. When I'm lazy, I just pick a station on ShoutCast, when I'm in the mood for something specific, I have gigabytes of mp3s on my computer to choose from.

I have worked in environments where music was obligatory. After ten years I was SO happy with a non-music environment, esp if you were never the one in control of what was being played.
