gorgeous or grotesque?

I'm hoping the image comes out on this...is this model too skinny, and therefore bannable in countries where skinny models are bannable?...is she gorgeous, or grotesque?

Despite a slight facial resemblance to the Brain,

that model's downright skeletal. I don't know if that's grounds for banning someone, as recently happened, but she's way too skinny.

Models' skinniness can't be regulated: French fashion official
Sep 15 7:14 AM US/Eastern

The shape and size of fashion models cannot be regulated, the head of the French couture federation has said, after models deemed too skinny were reportedly banned from the catwalk in Spain.

Didier Grumbach, president of the couture federation and chamber of haute couture, told AFP late Thursday that "everyone would laugh" if France attempted to follow suit.

Excessively-thin models have been barred from a major Madrid fashion show later this month for fear they could send the wrong message to young Spanish girls, local media reported last week.

Madrid's regional government, which is co-financing the Pasarela Cibeles, has vetoed around a third of the models who took part in last year's show because they weigh too little.

"That worries me," Grumbach commented: "We are not going to regulate in tastes and colours."

"If Jean Paul Gaultier wants to take fat people for his catwalk shows, we are not going to stop him.

"When (John) Galliano puts on the catwalk people who are not pretty pretty, no one thinks to reproach him," he added.

In two weeks' time, Paris takes over the fashion baton from New York and Milan, staging a packed week of women's ready-to-wear shows for spring-summer 2007 by some of the biggest designers in the fashion world.

"It's for the designer to decide what type of model he needs... that cannot be regulated," Grumbach added.http://www.breitbart.com/news/2006/09/15/060915111446.lxkagac8.html

hmm...

well I suppose I agree with the last comment - its up to the designer who he sees his clothes on or what statement he wants to make.

Its sad though that it should bother the other designers when one show has models that are much skinnier or fatter than theirs. I wish we didnt put so much focus onto the womens sizes like that. sad

I'm sure most of you know my feeling on this topic...

But that woman doesn't look healthy AT ALL and considering the attack on women regarding body image and faux obsesity in the media I think to glorify that kind of image isn't a great idea...no offense to the booty-challenged. Just my opinion.

I was going to say the "not looking healthy" thing, and how it means to me that she must not be healthy, but I always get shot down when I say that.

IMO, no, acutally, in my experience, you cant be healthy if youre that skinny. its not how women are meant to be and its not healthy. Of course there are some whoa re naturally skinny, yes, but that skinny? naturally? one of my closest friends, a guy, is very very skinny, but he wants to be bigger and just has a hard time putting on wieght. He is also depressed and sleeps far too much, and claims he has no appetite. --> not healthy.

Natisse: Id rather be my size than that too nod and Id certainly rather be able to stay awake aqll day, and life heavy things, and walk for miles, all things I can easily do, and I bet you she cant.

Rant over! twocents

Do you really think so though? I mean, shes attractive, shes not ugly, but her face....do you think shes gorgeous?

I think shes attractive, society would say very attractive because shes slim and neat and tidy, groomed and again, definitely now ugly...

But I wouldnt say gorgeous.

Sorry, Im just splitting hairs!

Ditto...sure I'm a bit chubby, but I'm HEALTHY. It really disgusts me that people like this woman are held up as the standard of beauty (i.e. fashion models) and to say that's not right is really a landmark decision, I think. An woman who was "overweight" wouldn't even be considered for the catwalk, but this gal was...but, yet, those who support the diet industry would say that both are "unhealthy" hmmm

Licorice

Sometimes thin models look gorgeous and the clothes fit them perfectly. But a lot look anorexic, unhealthy, not feminine enough. And what fits on these ladies won't fit anyone, so what's the point using this kind of models ?

you know whats even worse actually? (cue big rant) A large part of a womans purpose, or role (dont start with me on this one, im not gonna be pc!) on this planet is to bear children. Now, while some people, and some men, will eventually see that a pregnant woman is beautiful, and a mother who has given birth is a miracle, society, and many people will always see this model, as true beauty. Going on from what I said about just being able to walk or lift things - can she give birth?! I'd be surprised if she could even menstruate.

Im sorry folks, thats the cold hard truth the way I see it. Where I was brought up, women bore 5-10 children and raised them all, doing everything, while the man, if he was there, worked all day. Thats the kind of woman I admire, thats how I see a strong woman. Not this. I'd much rather have the muscles I do in my arms, gained through good old fashioned hard work, than concentrate on getting into a size 10.

i always look at the upper arms. if they're sunken in instead of having a little bit of fat or muscle, then there's a problem.
